Siuan becomes the new Amyrlin Seat.
Chapter 1 - Panic attack
Moiraine runs from the Hall of the Tower.
"Siuan Sanche."
"Siuan Sanche."
"Siuan Sanche."
For a moment, Moiraine forgot to breathe while she watched how more and more Sitters stood up to vote for Siuan. Siuan, not Elaida. The Hall was deciding against Elaida, although the last Keeper of the Chronicles had asked the Sitter to stand up for the Red!
And then, there was Kerene, followed by a second Green Sister. Had she waited on purpose? Had she wanted to know what the other Sisters would choose?
"Siuan Sanche."
"Siuan Sanche."
Eleven. Siuan had eleven votes. Eleven Sitters who had stood up for her. It was over. She had won. The White Tower had a new Amyrlin Seat.
"The vote is concluded," the last Keeper of the Chronicles said. "Our sisters have spoken. She who is raised to the Seat, she who is no longer of one Ajah but all. Siuan Sanche."
Siuan lifted her head, locking eyes with Moiraine. They made it. Siuan was the Amyrlin Seat. Now, they had someone on the seat who they could trust and knew that the Dragon Reborn had the Aes Sedai's support once Moiraine had found him.
The last Keeper of the Chronicles came with a golden robe, and the Tairen woman lowered her head so the other woman could place the fabric on her shoulders. Siuan would elect a new Keeper of the Chronicles. Moiraine didn't want to know who it would be. She knew it couldn't be her, no matter how much she wished to stay close to her lover.
At this moment, all the Sitters spoke in unison, "You are raised to the Amyrlin Seat. In the glory of the Light, that the White Tower may endure forever. The Watcher of the Seals, the Flame of Tar Valon, the Amyrlin Seat."
All of a sudden, Moiraine felt like someone was strangling her. She could barely breathe, and her chest hurt as if someone was stabbing her. Light! She needed to get out of there! She needed fresh air!
When the Cairhien woman turned around, she noticed she was surrounded by little groups of Aes Sedai, and all of them were whispering, pointing at the Sisters down in the Hall. Moiraine didn't want to know what they had to say about Siuan. Quickly, she started moving, almost running. Air! She needed air!
All the bonded Warders who had an Aes Sedai in the Hall of the Tower waited outside the doors, and so was Lan. The Malkieri was still not happy that he hadn't been allowed to enter the Hall.
Moiraine didn't notice how all heads turned to her because she was the first one who left the Hall since they all had entered. She didn't even notice how Lan caught up with her, following her quietly through the corridors of the Tower until they reached her room.
Gasping, the woman of the Blue Ajah pulled at her shawl, but the silly fabric refused to loosen. Blood and ashes! Why now?! She couldn't breathe!
"Let me do it."
Moiraine winced when she heard Lan's voice and saw him stepping before her. Where did he come from? Why hadn't she noticed him sooner?
When his calm hands reached for the shawl to take over, the Aes Sedai noticed how much her hands were trembling. No wonder she hadn't been able to undo her shawl. It was a surprise that she had been able to open the door to her bedroom.
