Moiraine and Lan pack their bags when Sammael's shield disappears.
Tension lay in the air while everyone was waiting for Lanfear to appear. Aviendha, Egwene, Bair, and Moiraine. They all had embraced Saidar. And Rand? Well, he definitely held on to Saidin at the moment. But could he hurt Lanfear?
The woman of the Blue Ajah was still surprised the boy had been able to go through with his plan. He had angered the Daughter of the Night. As much as she had wished for that day when he would finally step away from Lanfear, she feared Lanfear's reaction now. What would their enemy do now? How would she react?
Lanfear had already sent Sammael, and they still didn't know why. Would she reach out to the other Forsaken? Would she tell them where Rand was?
Three thousand years ago, Lews Therin Telamon had turned his back on her. How would she handle it now that Rand had done the same thing?
Anxiously, Moiraine turned her head around. It wouldn't surprise her if Lanfear decided to attack them from behind. But there was no one. And Moiraine didn't feel anyone else using Saidar. What was going on? What took Lanfear so long? She knew exactly where they were. Why didn't she attack?
"Where is she?" Aviendha wanted to know.
The Aiel woman had created two fire spears with the One Power. Although she had agreed to give up her spears, that woman still found a way to act like a Maiden of the Spear.
"She's waiting," Lan responded. His eyes were fixed on the bed.
No. Something was wrong. Lanfear should be with them by now.
"She's not that patient."
Moiraine agreed with Rand. The Daughter of the Night wasn't known to hold back. Whatever the reason was for her not showing, it couldn't be good.
The Aes Sedai felt a nudge through the bond, turning her attention toward her Warder. Their eyes locked. Lan wanted to know about Moiraine's opinion.
She shook her head slightly. Lanfear wouldn't show. Whatever the Daughter of the Night was planning – and Moiraine did not doubt that Lanfear was planning something after Rand's rejection – she wouldn't fall for their trap. No, their enemy was already planning her next steps.
The woman of the Blue Ajah released Saidar while the Malkieri sheathed his sword. Their plan hadn't worked. Now, they had a pissed Forsaken, who could attack them any moment.
"Don't assume you're the only thing she wants. If we underestimate her, we die." The other women had let go of Saidar as well, but Moiraine didn't wait for them to ask questions. They had to act quickly now if they wanted to escape Lanfear's revenge. "Get Rhuarc. We leave for Alcair Dal now."
Lan followed her immediately, always one step behind her. Hopefully, the others would listen as well, packing their stuff quickly before it was too late.
The Aes Sedai and the Warder arrived at Moiraine's cave within a few minutes. It was a relief that Moiraine didn't have to pack much. Her bags were almost ready. How fast would they be able to leave? Did the Aiel need more time to prepare? – Or could they leave Cold Rock's Hold within the next hour?
Lan was even faster than her since his bag was already packed. He just had to pick it up to be ready to leave. The man was always prepared for everything. Or was there a different reason why his bag was already packed? Had he thought about running away with Moiraine again?
Quickly, the Cairhien woman threw everything she had left into her bag. She wouldn't wait until Lanfear made her move. The Daughter of the Night would return once she had a plan about how to deal with Rand's rejection. And Moiraine didn't wish to be in Cold Rock's Hold when that reunion would happen.
