It's never easy to make a decision that could change someone's life.

Chapter 1 - One angry Warder

It's time to talk to Lanfear again.

Moiraine felt like she had been hit by a Trolloc when she opened her eyes. Blood and ashes! Immediately, all memories from last night returned. Lanfear's attack, though she hadn't stuck to the plan. Nynaeve, who had been stabbed eleven times by a mysterious man. A man no one had noticed.

Cursing, the Aes Sedai sat upright. The sun was slowly coming up. And she had to meet with Lanfear in that silly alley.

In that moment, Moiraine realized she held Siuan's net in her hands. Somehow, she must've reached for it in her sleep. After all, she had placed it under her pillow. And she hadn't had it in her hands when she went to...

The eyes of the Aes Sedai widened when she couldn't remember how she went to bed. After healing Nynaeve, Rand had called for her. And then the Aiel had brought Perrin in since he had also been injured. But after that... Moiraine remembered that she had tried to return to her room, but her body had been exhausted after all the healing. Hadn't her legs given way midway? But how did she return to her room?

Suddenly, Moiraine noticed she wasn't wearing the new dress Lan had gotten her, but her nightgown. She definitely hadn't worn that when she had healed the kids. And there was only one person who would dare to change her clothes.

Lan. Another memory. Her Warder's strong hands, catching her before she hit the floor. His smell when he picked her up. Hadn't she talked to him? Or was she imagining things?

And then Moiraine realized something else. The bond. Lan was awake. Worse even. Apparently, the man hadn't slept at all! And he was aware that Moiraine was awake as well!

Cursing, the woman of the Blue Ajah threw the blanket aside and jumped out of the bed. She had to be quick. There was no doubt that Lan would try to catch up with her after last night.

But Moiraine didn't want to hear what he had to say. She could feel that he was still angry. How long would he be angry with her? Should she tell him that she had tried to protect Nynaeve? No. That wouldn't change anything. Even if she told the Malkieri, it had still been her decision to work with Lanfear – a Forsaken. Lan had told her multiple times that it was a mistake to trust the Daughter of the Night and that they shouldn't work with her. Light! She should've listened!

Moiraine went as fast as possible to wash herself and get dressed. Besides fearing running into Lan, she also didn't want the kids to notice she left the inn. They couldn't find out about her involvement in last night's attack.

Sadly, luck wasn't on her side. Just when she closed her cloak – a beautiful fabric in her typical blue – her door opened, and the uncrowned king of Malkier entered.

Not good! Lan's eyes moved over her body, and she could see the anger in them. He wasn't pleased at what he saw. Quietly, Lan crossed his arms while blocking the door with his body.

"It's pretty warm to wear a cloak inside."

Did he really want her to say out loud what she had planned? "I didn't intend to stay inside."

"And when did you intend to tell me about your plans?"

Moiraine swallowed. Why was he making it so hard for her? "I assumed you wanted to stay at the inn." She tied her dagger around her waist, then added, "With Nynaeve."
