Moiraine receives a new piece of clothing.
When Moiraine opened her eyes, she noticed she lay in her bed at the inn. Shocked, she sat upright, but she was alone. How long did she sleep? What did she miss? Did Siuan make it back to the Tower? Was Nynaeve doing better? Had Rand stayed out of trouble?
The Cairhien woman shivered when the blanket dropped, realizing she was naked. A shriek escaped her lips, and she pulled the blanket up again. Where were her clothes? Who undressed her? Why couldn't she remember how she got to bed? The last thing she knew was that she had saved Siuan from the falling stones, and then...
The rest was a blur. Had she been crying? She remembered stumbling and being exhausted. At some point, she had attacked someone.
Suddenly, the door of her room opened, and Lan stepped inside. He carried a tray with some food and a steaming cup. Moiraine's eyes widened. Lan! She had attacked Lan! The Aes Sedai didn't remember why she had attacked her Warder, but remembered his smell. Somehow, she had hidden her face in his tunic.
"How do you feel?"
The uncrowned king of Malkier had changed his clothes, and the Cairhien woman finally remembered that it had been pouring that morning. Was that the reason why she was naked? Did Lan take care of her drenched clothes before he put her in bed?
"What happened?"
"You were exhausted and fell asleep."
"Liandrin?"
But Lan shook his head. "I have no idea. I didn't see her and didn't return to the Tower after I brought you here." He placed the tray beside her. "Drink. Eat."
Moiraine ignored the tray – and the order. "Where are my clothes?"
"Drying."
The Aes Sedai waited for her Warder to continue, but Lan didn't do her the favor. Oh, he knew exactly what she wanted and was as stubborn as she was.
"How long was I gone?"
"A few hours."
"Can you give me an exact number?" Moiraine growled. That insufferable man was clearly enjoying that.
"I could."
Insufferable man! He really wouldn't tell her! Angrily, Moiraine threw the blanket aside and slipped out of bed.
"Fine. Don't tell me. I'll figure it out myself."
As soon as she stood on her feet, Lan was there, and she nearly bumped into him. Shocked, the Cairhien woman stumbled backward and had to sit on her bed again. Light! She hated it when he moved without a sound!
"You need to eat and drink," the Malkieri explained calmly, not moving out of the way.
Growling, the Aes Sedai grabbed her Warder's arm to pull herself up, then moved around him. "I need to check on Rand."
"He is alright. The kids are still shaken by the attack in the White Tower, but stayed at the inn. Could you please eat something?"
"I'm not hungry." Moiraine reached the wardrobe and put on some underwear.
"You never are. Yet your body needs the energy to keep going."
"I'll eat later." The woman of the Blue Ajah opened the second door of the wardrobe to go through her dresses and stopped dead in her tracks when her eyes fell on the piece of fabric hanging at the back of the door. "What is that?"
The dress was simple, nothing out of the ordinary. But it was the color that surprised Moiraine. Mauve! Her clothes were usually blue since she belonged to the Blue Ajah. How did that dress end up in her wardrobe?
