Will Moiraine be able to tell Siuan about her death? And what will the Wise Ones do if they find out about her trip to Tel'aran'rhiod?
I love you.
Kissing Siuan felt right. It was like coming home. Of course, Moiraine couldn't forget what had happened in Cairhien, but she didn't want Siuan to remember her like that. It was their last moment together. Very soon, Lanfear would kill the Cairhien woman, and Moiraine knew that she would never see Siuan again. Tonight was her last chance to be with the love of her life.
And it would be over soon. Egwene had mentioned that Moiraine would wake up once the brass pin fell. Moiraine didn't know how much time had already passed, but surely everything would be over soon.
The woman of the Blue Ajah tried to step back, but the Tairen woman followed. "Don't," Siuan whispered. "Don't leave. Not yet."
But Moiraine shook her head. "I don't have much time. I will wake up soon, and then I'll be gone." Tears burned in Moiraine's eyes, and she cupped Siuan's face again. "Rand needs the White Tower behind him. He will need all the help he can get against the Dark One. Promise me you won't work against him. Promise me you won't try to cage him again."
Siuan snorted. "Have you forgotten how well it had worked the first time?" The Amyrlin Seat shook her head. "I'm not a fool. I know now that caging the boy isn't going to work. Convincing our sisters won't be easy, but I'll think about something."
"Good." Quickly, Moiraine threw a glance at the door. Nothing indicated that she would wake up soon. Perhaps the sound of the falling brass pin would simply throw her out of Tel'aran'rhiod. Sighing, she kissed Siuan one last time. It was better to end this now before they were interrupted abruptly. "I love you. Never forget that."
A furrow appeared on the forehead of the Amyrlin. She was clearly analyzing Moiraine's words. "Never for-"
The woman of the Blue Ajah kissed her lover again, hoping it would stop her thoughts from running. If Siuan noticed the hidden meaning of Moiraine's words...
Moiraine closed her eyes. She couldn't look at Siuan anymore. It was so hard! She wanted nothing more than to be with Siuan until that bloody brass pin fell. But she couldn't tell her lover about her upcoming death. She couldn't. Yes, Lan was right. Siuan deserved to hear those words from Moiraine, but she couldn't say the words. Her heart was already aching painfully, so she did the only thing she could do. She ran.
Without another explanation or a word, Moiraine stormed to the door. Her vision was already blurred from the tears that she couldn't hold back. Why wasn't that brass pin falling?! She had to return. Being in that hut wasn't good for her. It only made things worse.
And it didn't help that she was drunk. The bloody alcohol only made her even more emotional. Light! She should've waited for her visit until she hadn't been drunk anymore!
"Moiraine!"
Of course, the Creator was still not on Moiraine's side. Otherwise, he wouldn't have allowed Siuan to catch up with the crying woman.
"Stop!" Siuan's fingers grabbed Moiraine's wrist, stopping her before she could leave the hut. "What is going on? Why do you sound like I'm never seeing you again?"
"Please," Moiraine cried. "Let me go. I need to leave."
It was useless. Siuan was as protective as Lan over Moiraine. And seeing Moiraine cry... well, it only activated her protection mode. Without hesitating, the Tairen woman wrapped her arms around the Cairhien woman, holding her close.
"I'm here." She completely ignored Moiraine's desperate attempts to free herself. "I'm here, pufferfish."
And for the second time that night, Moiraine started to sob. Her legs gave way, but Siuan moved with her to the ground, never letting go of her.
