___________________________________________Them as kids:
Jake is sitting at the playground, looking at the sorts of rocks he has collected. The little child smiled at the collection before he heard footsteps approaching him. He noticed another little boy (Carrington) walk over to him.
The little boy, Carrington, approached Jake with a shy smile on his face. He stopped a few feet away, taking in the sight of the collection of rocks in Jake's hand.
"Hey," he said softly, his voice filled with curiosity. "What are you doing?" Carrington asked.
Jake felt shy himself. He shifted his eye contact and back at the rocks. "Looking at the rocks." He replied, a bit awkwardly since he wasn't good at talking to other's.
Carrington took a step closer, his eyes fixed on the rocks in Jake's hand. "Cool," he said, his voice filled with admiration. "I like rocks too."
He sat down beside Jake, his gaze still fixated on the collection. "Can I see them?" he asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.
"Um, otay." Jake handed Carrington a rock. A bit nervous that Carrington was going to bully him or tease him at any moment.
Carrington took the rock from Jake, his eyes lighting up with excitement. He held it up to his face, inspecting it closely.
"Wow, this is a really cool rock," Carrington said, turning it over in his hands. "I've never seen one like this before."
He looked at Jake with a genuine smile. "Where did you find it?" he asked, his voice filled with interest.
"I found it over there." Jake said, pointing to the small pond by the playground with little ducklings surrounding the pond.
Carrington's eyes followed the direction of Jake's finger, landing on the pond with the ducklings. His eyes widened in excitement.
"No way! you found a rock there?" he exclaimed, his voice filled with awe. "That's awesome!"
He looked back at Jake, his smile growing even wider. "Can we go check it out?" he asked, his eagerness palpable.
"Uh, sure!" Jake began to smile as he got up. The two kiddos ran together near the pond.
Carrington's eyes widened as they got closer to the pond. He crouched down beside it, his gaze fixed on the ducklings swimming around.
"Look at them!" he exclaimed, pointing to the little birds. "They're so cute!!!!"He looked up at Jake, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Can we feed them?" he asked hopefully.
"We gotta ask my mommy" Jake replied. "I think she has bread for the duckys." As he and Carrington walked over to the bench where Mrs Webber sat.
Carrington nodded in agreement, his excitement still palpable. He followed Jake over to the bench where Mrs. Webber sat, a bit nervous about meeting her.
Mrs. Webber looked up as they approached, a warm smile on her face. "Hello, boys," she said kindly. "What's going on?"
Jake spoke up, "so this is.." as he looked at Carrington. They forgot to tell each other their names!
Carrington's eyes widened in realization. He had been so caught up in the excitement of the rocks and the ducklings that he hadn't even introduced himself.
