Jake is sitting in the hallway. Not talking, hardly moving. He can hear the clock ticking on the wall, the fan down the hall and the sounds of his boyfriend Carrington coming up the stairs.
Carrington ascended the stairs, a weary expression on his face. He had just finished a long and exhausting day at his modeling work, and all he wanted to do was collapse into bed and sleep for the next 12 hours.
As he reached the top of the stairs, he noticed Jake sitting in the hallway, looking unusually quiet and still. He raised an eyebrow in curiosity and concern, approaching him slowly.
Jake appeared to be zoning out. His brown eyes are glazed over as he is starting to tap his foot on the wooden flooring.
Carrington frowned slightly as he took in Jake's distant expression. He knew something was off, and his instincts told him that something was troubling his boyfriend.
He knelt down in front of Jake, gently placing a hand on his knee to get his attention.
"Hey.." he said softly.
Jake immediately jumped. Tucking up his knees and gripping at his hair. But he didn't talk, he was quiet. Unnerving quiet.
Carrington was taken aback by Jake's sudden reaction. He had never seen him act like this before, and it sent a pang of worry through his heart.
He quickly reached out to stop Jake from gripping his hair, gently pulling his hands away from his head.
"Jake.. hey, look at me.." he said, his voice filled with concern.
Jake avoided eye contact. Staring at the ground. He was having a difficult time communicating what was wrong. He wanted to yell, scream, say something - but his throat felt constricted. He felt like his mouth was glued shut and stitched. He didn't move, he didn't speak.
Carrington's heart ached as he saw the distress in Jake's eyes. He knew something was really wrong, and it scared him to see his usually outgoing and lively boyfriend so withdrawn and silent.
He took a deep breath, trying to remain calm despite the fear and worry bubbling inside him. He gently cupped Jake's face in his hands, forcing him to look up at him.
"Please, baby.. talk to me.." he pleaded, his voice filled with desperation.
Jake parted his lips, they shaked as he immediately closed them. He shakes his head. He couldn't talk right now.
Carrington felt a lump form in his throat as Jake shook his head, denying his request to speak. It was clear that whatever was going on was causing him significant distress, and he was struggling to express it.
He let out a shaky sigh, trying to keep his emotions in check. He needed to stay strong for Jake right now, even though his own heart was racing with worry.
"Okay.. it's okay if you can't talk right now.." he said softly, running his thumbs over Jake's cheeks in a soothing gesture.
Jake grabbed Carrington's watch that is on his boyfriend's wrist. He stared at it and tapped on it twice. The watch said the time was late. It was late at night. The clock read 2am.
Carrington glanced down at his watch as Jake tapped on it, his brow furrowing in confusion. He looked at the time, his eyes widening slightly as he realized just how late it was.
