[ Jake has a dissociative episode! Carrington helps him through it! ]
cw: depersonalization, derealization, dissociative behavior
-----------------------
Jake was sitting on the floor in the middle of the hall. His eyes blankly staring. He wasn't sure why this was happening...maybe it was because his routine for the past few days hasn't been right?
He has no idea. But he can just feel himself slipping further and further away from reality.
Carrington was on his way back from the kitchen, a cup of coffee in hand, when he spotted Jake on the floor. His eyebrow raised in curiosity, and he walked over to him, crouching down in front of him.
"Hey, you alright?" he asked, his voice soft and concerned.
But Jake didn't reply. His brown gaze was looking at Carrington, but not directly at him. Passed his head and towards the wall.
Carrington placed his coffee down on the floor and moved a little closer to Jake, his eyes studying his face. He could tell something was wrong. He reached out and gently touched Jake's shoulder.
"Jake? Can you hear me?" he asked, his voice a little more urgent now.
Once again, Jake didn't respond. He just got up from the floor and walked up the stairs. As he walked, he looked at his hands. They were out of focus.
Carrington watched as Jake got up and walked away, concern etched on his face. He quickly stood up and followed him up the stairs, not wanting to leave him alone in this state.
He caught up to him in the hallway. "Jake, stop," he said firmly, placing a hand on his shoulder again to stop him from walking any further.
Jake stopped. He looked down the hallway. In his vision, it looked way longer than normal. He panicked for a second, as he just sat in the middle of the hallway.
Carrington saw the panic in Jake's eyes and quickly crouched down in front of him again. He gently took his face in his hands, forcing him to look at him.
"Jake, you're scaring me. What's going on?" he asked, his voice filled with worry.
But came no response. Jake just has a glazed over look in his eyes. He was staring at Carrington's face, but he wasn't there.
Carrington could see that Jake was lost in his own thoughts, and it was clear that he wasn't responding to anything he was saying. He gently ran his thumb over Jake's cheek, trying to bring him back to reality.
"Jake, please snap out of it. You're worrying me," he pleaded, his voice filled with concern.
But Jake.. couldn't. Jake's eyes are still glazed over as he moved his head back. He looks down at his hands again.
Carrington felt helpless as he watched Jake continue to disassociate. He knew he had to do something to snap him out of it. He gently took Jake's hands in his own, holding them tightly.
"Jake, I need you to look at me. Focus on my voice," he said, his tone firm but gentle.
Jake wasn't responding at all. He just stared at the wall while holding Carrington's hands.
