"Hi sweetheart, are you sure you're going to be alright?"

Chris nods even though his mother can't see him, with a hand in his pocket, wandering around the room surrounded by tall glass windows.

Overlooking the city of New York.

"Yeah, Ma, I'll be alright. I'll see you guys tomorrow. My flight leaves first thing in the morning."

"Hmmm," Lisa disapproves, not being able to spend her son's birthday with him. But, life's been like this since he first started getting famous. There just isn't enough time to fly back and forth.

And today was his new movie's premiere all over theaters, so of course he couldn't leave the city.

"I'll be fine," Chris chuckles, "we'll just pretend tomorrow is the 13th." The silence on the other line tells Chris he has to be more convincing, "Ma, really, it's not a big deal."

"And you're heading to bed now?"

"Mhm, I'm packing the last of my things." The premiere was a whole day thing, so instead of going out with everyone for dinner and drinks, Chris decided to call it a night.

He's been taking pictures, watching the final result of the movie once more, signing autographs and engaging all day with people.

He needs a social recharge.

"Okay, sweetie, I'll call you in the morning."

"Alright. Good night, mom."

"Chris?"

"Yep?"

"Happy Birthday."

Chris smiles as he reaches the edge of his bed, looking out to the gorgeous sky like New York was utterly famous for. "Thanks, Mom."

Pressing the button to hang up, Chris tosses his phone beside him, taking a deep breath and dragging his hand over his beard. Tracing his forefingers around the corners of his mouth.

The silence of his hotel room is cut short when his assistant Josh comes in holding a bottle of wine from downstairs at the bar.

"Dude, you should've seen how packed it is down there, babes everywhere there's some kind of pageant going on."

"Last time you said that it was a toddler tiara show."

Josh blinks, and his cheeks burn red, "well I guess I mistaken the hot moms. I didn't know all those little girls were there."
