Vivian woke up early and went into Jamie's room. As she knelt by his bed, she shook his shoulder gently. He began to stir and rubbed his eyes before looking at his mum. "Good morning, mummy." He leaned his head on her chest and snuggled in close. Vivian wrapped him in a hug as she whispered, "Jamie, I need to tell you something." He lifted his head looking at her ready to listen. "Remember when Bon Bon and I talked to you about taking in children that needed our help?" Jamie nodded as his eyes sparkled with a hint of excitement. "A girl named Ciara was brought to us last night. She is going to be staying with us for a little while."
Jamie smiled, "Really, mumma? Is she going to go to nursery with me today?" Vivian laughed as she laid her head against his. "I don't know. That's up to Ciara." He nodded softly before getting out of bed. "I'm going to get dressed. I can show Ciara around and tell her how everything works!" Vivian smiled watching Jamie stand tall and confident ready to help and protect Ciara. "Okay, Jamie, I'm going to wake Bon Bon and get breakfast going." The small boy continued to get his outfit from his drawer as he responded with a distracted, "okay."
Vivian shook her head as she walked back to their bedroom. When she opened the door, Siobhan was rolling out of bed. "Morning, Bon. I talked to Jamie and he has switched on brother mode." Siobhan smiled, "What exactly does that mean?" Vivian walked up to Siobhan wrapping her arms around her waist, "Well, he is getting dressed now so he can be ready to give the tour when she wakes up. Also, he wants her to go to nursery with him." Vivian chuckled lightly as she pressed a gentle kiss on Siobhan's lips.
When they pulled apart, Siobhan reminded Vivian of what Marjorie told them, "Marjorie did say that any age up to 6 years could come to the nursery— day one. She would make it happen so we don't get in a bind." The brunette walked over to the closet picking out her outfit, "So that's it then. It's just up to Ciara if she wants to go. If she does, I'll go to work, but if not I can stay home with her."
The two women finished getting dressed and Siobhan went downstairs with Jamie to start breakfast. Vivian tiptoed down the hall to check on Ciara. As she peeked inside the room, the young girl sat up with a small smile on her face. "Good morning, Ciara. Siobhan is downstairs with our son Jamie. Would you like to meet him? He is the same age as you." Her sweet brown eyes lit up as she nodded eagerly. "He is excited to meet you. If it's okay with you, he would like to show you around the house." Ciara's smile grew as she slid off the bed. "Can I change into my butterfly outfit first?" Vivian smiled, "Of course, sweetie. I'll wait for you out here, okay?"
After a few minutes, Ciara opened the door slowly and peeked around the door. Vivian reached out for her hand. "Come on. I think breakfast is ready." Vivian winked while a smile pulled at her lips. The young girl took her hand timidly and followed her down to the kitchen. She walked with her body halfway behind Vivian as if she was trying to shield herself.
Siobhan turned away from the stove and saw her wife and Ciara. "Good morning, Ciara. Do you like pancakes?" She shuffled out from behind Vivian stepping forward to stand beside her. A sweet whisper fell from her lips, "Pancakes are my favorite." Jamie hopped down from his seat and slowly approached Ciara. "Hi, Ciara. I'm Jamie. You can come sit by me and when we finish eating I can show you around. I know how everything works too."
Jamie stuck his hand out for Ciara. She took his hand as he pulled her along to the table. Siobhan and Vivian looked on smiling. They weren't sure how Jamie would act, but it was clear he was like his mother. He wanted to take care of Ciara and keep her safe. Siobhan walked over with their plates so they could start eating. As the blonde made her way back to the counter, Vivian met her there leaning into her. She plated up their food and set it on the island for them to enjoy together.
They settled on the stools and watched Jamie and Ciara interact. Vivian was glowing with pride watching her son be so accepting and comfortable with this new situation.
Ciara sat with her head slightly lowered. She focused her eyes on her plate and pushed the food around with her fork. After a few minutes she slowly brought her first bite to her mouth. In a soft whisper, she admitted, "These are the best pancakes I've ever had." Vivian raised her eyebrows as she mumbled, "And they were made by the worst cook in the house." Siobhan narrowed her eyes as she smacked Vivian in the arm.
Jamie sat up on his knees as he took another bite of his pancakes. "I go to the best nursery in the world. Do you want to go with me today? My mums say you can if you want." Ciara kicked her feet as she scooped up another bite of her pancakes. "Are the other kids nice?" Jamie giggled, "Most of them are. There are two Henrys in my class and they can be meanies sometimes, but I can protect you." Ciara giggled, "Okay. I think it would be fun to go to the nursery, then."
Siobhan and Vivian covered their mouths as they tried to hide their faces while laughing at the conversation.
Jamie looked over at his mums. "The Henrys' mums are mean to my mums sometimes too." Vivian lowered her head squeezing the bridge of her nose with her thumb and pointer finger. Siobhan had to turn around, her laughter barely contained. Jamie continued, "They aren't too mean though because they are scared my mums will beat them up. My mum asked Mrs. Geraldine once if she wanted to take it outside." He took a sip of his orange juice before he finished, "She started waving her hands freaking out and then ran away."
Siobhan began coughing as she choked trying to withhold her laugh. Vivian swatted at her and whispered, "Bon, stop!" The brunette stood from her stool, "Right, Jamie. How about you give Ciara the tour and teach her how to work the bath?" He jumped up, "Okay, mum." He reached out for her hand and they went running up the stairs. "It's really easy to run a bath once you know how it all works."
His little voice faded as they got further away. Vivian turned towards Siobhan, her eyes wide, as the blonde turned to face her. Siobhan put her hands up, "I'm sorry." She chuckled as Vivian walked closer. Vivian walked her back into the counter reaching around and slapping her bum. "You can't encourage him to say stuff like that!" Vivian leaned in, placing a soft kiss on Siobhan's lips.
As she pulled away, Siobhan whispered, "I know. It just caught me by surprise and I couldn't help myself." Vivian smiled, "I'm just going to have to help you strengthen your restraint." She winked, "We can start the training tonight." Siobhan blushed. As she leaned back in to kiss Vivian, she whispered, "Hmm, don't tease me..." Before their lips met, Vivian breathed, "I don't tease, I promise..." The two women pulled away fanning themselves with their hands.
They heard the pattering of feet barreling down the stairs. "Mum, can we go to nursery now? Ciara is excited to go and I finished showing her everything." Vivian called out, "Of course, let's clean up the kitchen and then we can leave." Siobhan pulled out her phone, "While you all finish that up, I'm going to call Marjorie and let her know we have two children coming to nursery today."
"Good morning, Siobhan. Is everything alright?" The blonde smiled slightly, "Good morning, Marjorie. I'm good. How are you?" Marjorie chuckled, "I'm good. You're obviously not calling out of work, so what's going on?" The blonde smirked and took a moment to watch the three work together cleaning. "We got our first placement last night. A six year old girl. Will we be able to bring her to nursery today?"
Marjorie gasped, "Aw! Siobhan, of course. We will also make sure that she is in the same group as Jamie." Siobhan sighed with relief, "Thank you, Marjorie. We will see you soon."
Siobhan walked over to Vivian sliding her hand across her back resting it on her waist. "I love you." Vivian leans into Siobhan's touch, "I love you, my beautiful wife." The two watch Jamie and Ciara sit together putting their shoes on. "We really can do this..."
