A/N— I had written a whole different chapter, but it broke me the direction it was taking... so completely scrapped it... enjoy?
Vivian wakes the next morning tangled in Siobhan's limbs. The older woman stares at her lover's face, glowing with the rays of sun filtering through the curtains. Siobhan's hand rested between their faces on the pillow. Vivian's eyes are drawn to the teal stone on her ring finger. It glistened in the morning light. It was hard to believe that the events from last night weren't just imagined— it was real. She whispers to the sleeping blonde, "I promise forever, Bon."
The soft voice wakes Siobhan as she stirs, voice hoarse and groggy, "Good morning..." infused with a tone of hesitation as if she isn't sure of reality before she smiles, "Fiancé." She brushes Vivian's hair behind her ear leaning in slowly pressing her lips gently to Vivian's. Siobhan hums in contentment against Vivian's lips. When they separate to catch their breath, their giggles float through the room, surrounding them in warmth. In unison they softly whisper, "My fiancé..."
Back at the hospital, Jamie and Beckett sit together on the floor playing with legos. Interestingly enough, Jamie loved the challenge of building the tallest and longest bridges. Beckett, being a civil engineer, knew copious amounts of details about building bridges. The two spent hours constructing the coolest bridges and buildings ever made with legos. Jamie's surprised gasps and wows echoed constantly through the room before confessing, "Papa, I want to be just like you when I grow up!"
Athena returns to the room with her cup of coffee watching the tender moment unfold. She leaned back on the door frame sipping her coffee slowly as her heart melted. Out of everything she loved about her husband, the most attractive trait was the way he shows his love for others. After a few moments, Beckett looked up catching the sight of Athena. His face lights up and a smile pulls at his lips, "How's your coffee, darling?" Athena walks over to him and as she leans over she whispers, "It's wonderful, babe." punctuating with a kiss to his lips.
Beckett and Athena's expression of love for each other made a lasting impression on Vivian. She wanted to love someone like that and wanted to be loved in the same way. Their daughter had found the love she craved for all her life and it brought them comfort. Knowing all the pain Vivian endured from past relationships, seeing her with Siobhan made them proud that she never gave up.
Back at Vivian's the two women sat together out in the back garden drinking their coffee. Romantic memories of the previous night playing through their minds as grins painted across their faces. Siobhan holds her hand in front of her staring at the ring that told their love story. She feels the warm streak flow down her face. Siobhan never believed she would find real happiness, but it found her. The moment she met the new, raven haired parent her entire world flipped upside down in the worst, but absolute best way.
Vivian looked over at the blonde captured by her beauty. She watched as Siobhan stared at the ring she placed on her finger just last night. Her heart fluttered witnessing the emotion radiating from the woman. The sound of a text message coming through shattered her focus as her mind flashed to Jamie. If she wasn't with Jamie herself, anxiety punched her in the gut with every message and phone call. Her hands shake as she reaches for her phone. When she views the thumbnail of the text on her screen, her heart stops as a searing tingle spreads through her body.
Unknown number:
You run off with my son and think I'm not going to find you?! Jamie has cancer, and you don't have enough courtesy to notify his father? I'll see you soon V... you can bet on that!
Siobhan immediately realizes the change in Vivian's demeanor, "Viv, you okay?" When she gets no response, her stomach twists into knots. Her voice became sharper, "Viv! Baby, are you alright?" Vivian snaps out of her thoughts as she releases a fake chuckle, "Yeah, I'm fine. It's just Mia being Mia." Siobhan searches Vivian's gaze noticing a flicker of fear, but she trusts her partner so she doesn't push any further.
The blonde presses a sweet kiss to Vivian's lips before standing, "I'm going to get ready to head to the nursery. I'll see you when I get home." The brunette nods as her eyes drop to the ground. "My parents are staying with Jamie tonight as well. I'm going to spend time with him while you are at work, but we will have another evening to spend together alone." Vivian's parents know how important it is for couples to spend time alone together, especially during challenging seasons.
When Siobhan enters the office at the nursery, Mia's eyes immediately notice the ring on her finger. The redhead pulls Siobhan out of the office away from Marjorie and Autumn. She wraps her hand around her wrist gently and pulls it up as her eyes almost pop out of her head. Siobhan blushes and giggles slightly before she answers Mia's silent question. "She asked me last night... It was so special, Mia. I get to marry the love of my life!"
Mia's eyes welled up with tears, "I'm so happy for you, Shibs. You and Viv have been through so much together. You two deserve this..." The two friends share a rare embrace between them with the mutual understanding that it would never be spoken of again.
The day flew by and Siobhan couldn't wait to get home to Vivian. As she drove home, Vivian's beautiful features flashed in her mind. The warm, beautiful smile that melted her over and over. Her ocean blue eyes that seemed to look through to her very soul. How her touch ignited a fever that flushed through every inch of her being. Every kiss broke another piece of her shell away until she was finally free.
Siobhan essentially drove home on autopilot since her mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Vivian. She noticed Vivian's car in the driveway already back from the hospital. The excitement was soon ripped from her when she took in the sight of her love. The brunette was sitting in the middle of the floor in the kitchen with a half drunken fifth of whiskey.
Her posture deflated and tears streamed down her cheeks. Pieces of her hair stuck to the saline streaks covering her face. She lazily puts the bottle to her lips taking another huge sip of the liquor. Her body sways slightly as her balance was waning.
Siobhan kneeled down next to her silently, patiently awaiting some type of explanation, anything but silence. Vivian stared ahead, her eyes glassy and distant, she barely managed a whisper. "His hair is falling out, Bon... and Chris... Chris found us..."
A/N— Believe it or not this is actually less heartbreaking than the original direction my mind was headed. Jamie remains in the storyline with this direction... It's going to be an interesting journey...
