Bonnie wasn't sure how long she'd been standing there.
The bedroom was dark except for the little bit of light coming through the curtains. Kol was still asleep, completely unaware that his wife was standing beside the bed staring at him.
Bonnie had woken up maybe ten minutes ago with another contraction. She'd gone to the bathroom, and somewhere between sitting there half asleep and standing back up, she'd realized her clothes were wet.
Her water had broken.
At least she was pretty sure it had.
She should've woken Kol immediately. Instead, Bonnie had walked back into the bedroom and just stood there.
This was it.
The twins were coming.
Kol shifted beneath the covers before slowly opening his eyes. He looked toward Bonnie and visibly flinched.
"Jesus."
"Sorry." Bonnie rested a hand beneath her stomach. "I didn't mean to scare you."
Kol rubbed his face and squinted at her through the darkness. "Why are you awake?"
Bonnie hesitated. "I think my water broke."
His hand stopped against his face. "What?"
"I think my water broke."
Kol threw the covers off immediately.
"Jesus, Bonnie." He reached for the lamp before apparently deciding he didn't have time and headed straight for the closet. "And you're just standing there? Why didn't you wake me up?"
"I don't know." Bonnie watched him pull on the first pair of sweatpants he found. "I was just scared."
Kol looked at her, clearly confused by that answer, but Bonnie suddenly grabbed the dresser.
Another contraction tightened across her stomach. "Oh, God."
Kol was beside her immediately. "All right. Sit down."
His arm went around her waist, and Bonnie held onto him while he walked her back toward the bed. She lowered herself onto the mattress and breathed through the pain.
Kol crouched in front of her.
Her shoes were beside the bed. He pulled them onto her feet and tied them while Bonnie concentrated on breathing.
By the time the contraction passed, Kol was already standing again.
"My hair."
He stopped.
"I need my hair up."
Kol grabbed the hair tie from her nightstand. Bonnie turned slightly, and he gathered her hair as quickly as he could before tying it back.
"Thank you."
Kol kissed the side of her head and disappeared into the darkness again.
Bonnie heard drawers opening. A closet door. Something hitting the floor.
Then a much louder crash.
"Bloody hell!"
Bonnie jumped. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah." Kol stood up somewhere near the dresser. "I should've turned on the bloody light."
The bedroom door opened a few seconds later. Davina stood there in pajama pants and an oversized T-shirt. She'd come over for dinner and ended up staying the night in one of the guest rooms.
