By seven-thirty, the Mystic Grill barely looked like the Mystic Grill.
Half the regular tables had been replaced with round ones covered in cream-colored linens, flowers lined the windows, and candles covered nearly every surface that wasn't a fire hazard.
The bar, however, had remained completely untouched.
Apparently, that had been Damon's one request.
Bonnie stood near the entrance with Kol's hand around hers, watching everyone find their tables.
"This is weird."
Kol looked down at her. "Being married?"
"No, having assigned seating in the Grill." Bonnie looked around again. "We used to come here after school."
"And now we're having our wedding reception here."
Bonnie smiled. She hadn't really thought about it until now. She'd spent so many afternoons in this building with Elena and Caroline, doing homework they barely finished while Matt was able to get them free drinks and food. They would complain about their lives and wondering what they'd look like when they finally grew up.
She definitely hadn't pictured this.
Her, twenty-six years old, three months pregnant with twins and married to Kol Mikaelson.
Bonnie looked down at their joined hands. His wedding ring still looked strange on his finger. Not bad. Just new.
Kol caught her staring. "Admiring something?"
"Maybe."
His smile widened. "My wife likes looking at me. How fortunate."
Bonnie laughed and bumped her shoulder against him. "You are going to be unbearable with this wife thing."
"I've waited quite a long time to use it. Let me enjoy myself."
"You've been using it since the ceremony ended."
"And I've enjoyed every minute."
Bonnie shook her head, but when Kol leaned down to kiss her, she met him halfway.
She'd changed after pictures into a lighter white dress without the train, and most of the bridal party had done the same. Rebekah had lasted maybe ten minutes before abandoning her bridesmaid dress completely. Bonnie couldn't blame her.
Kol's hand settled comfortably at her waist.
Before Bonnie could say anything, someone caught the back of his jacket.
Rebekah stood behind them in a pale gold dress, champagne in hand. "May I steal your husband?"
Bonnie looked at Kol, then back at her. "Please."
Kol frowned. "Please?"
Bonnie laughed as she slipped out of his arm. "I'll survive five minutes without you."
"I wasn't worried about you."
"Of course you weren't."
She kissed his cheek before heading toward Elena and Caroline.
Kol watched her go until Rebekah stepped into his line of sight.
He frowned. "What?"
"You're a married man now."
Kol looked down at the ring on his hand and smiled. "Apparently so."
Rebekah studied him for a moment. She and Kol had spent a thousand years annoying each other, fighting with each other and, when it mattered, choosing each other. She'd watched him ruin perfectly good things simply because he was convinced they'd eventually be taken from him anyway.
