Thirty

Maya's POV:

I felt really refreshed this morning. I basically slept away the past 12 hours. Riley fell asleep on my chest and her position is quite awkward. Her legs and waist are hanging off the bed and her torso and head are on it. She's such a weirdo.
Funny thing about yesterday is that when I was younger, I would promise myself to keep her safe no matter what. Even if it involves taking a bullet for her, which I did. I take that promise so seriously because me and Riley's friendship isn't like any other. I've been walking on thin ice with her, but yesterday just built us a lot stronger. I never break a serious promise. My deep thoughts are interrupted by Riley stirring around and I say, "Hi." She opens one eye and looks up at me just stares. I say, "What?" She says with a smile, "Did you know you're truly my hero?" I laugh and roll my eyes and say, "Oh come on. I'm not that great." She says, "Yes you are! It's a big deal. In a matter of a second you changed who lays in that hospital bed right now. You saved me." I guess I never actually realized that there's a huge possibility that if I didn't jump, Riley might've been gone. I honestly can't imagine a life without her. I side smirk at her and say, "Well thank you, but I had to do it. A life without you isn't a life worth living. And when I said those words just now I meant it." I truly did. Riley starts to take in what I said and gets a little emotional and says in a shaky voice, "I feel the same way."
I want to try to lighten the mood, but how? Oh I know. I say, "Wanna know what I do when I'm sad?" She asks curiously, "What's that?" I pull out my phone and say, "I like to look through our old messages." Riley shoots up like a firework and says, "OOH! That is fun! I did it yesterday while you were getting surgery." I say, "You what? You had my phone? And you went THROUGH IT?" She laughs and says, "Yeah, it really helped me for the time being." We start to scroll up and up until we reach our messages from 6 months ago. I never deleted our conversations. I read:
Maya: hey riles
Riley: what
Maya: I know you're mad at me but listen
Riley: I'm not mad!
Maya: shhh it's okay
Riley: what are you talking about peaches I'm fine
Maya: I know. I'm sorry.
Riley: I'm beyond confused
Maya: please forgive me I'm sorry
Riley: I'm not mad!! What did you do?
Maya: phew. Thank goodness you're not mad anymore. Thanks for forgiving me. Now I got to go back to work see ya
Riley: what just happened

I start hysterically laughing as Riley sits there in confusion and amusement. She says, "I'm still wondering what that was about." I keep laughing and say, "I was at the studio that day and I was on break and decided to mess with you since I didn't get to talk to you at all that day." She laughs and says, "That was a stupid joke." I shrug and say, "Well it confused you right? That was the goal!" She throws her arms around me and hugs me with a tight grip. I hold her back. I ask, "Hey where'd Farkle go?" She says, "Not sure. Let's look at more texts while we wait for him to come back." I nod in agreement and for the next 3 minutes we laugh and laugh at all of our old messages together.
Then Farkle comes in and after the nurse checks me she tells me I might be discharged even earlier! Thank God. I want out of here!
I notice that it's only 7am and say, "Why are we up so early? If we were home we'd still be asleep." Farkle says, "Good observation, we only got 3 hours of sleep, but I feel pretty refreshed." I agree with Farkle, but Riley says with a yawn, "I'm still a little sleepy." I lay her head down back on my chest and say, "Go to sleep. I'll wake you up at a more reasonable hour." Farkle says, "Guess it's just you and me!" I say, "No because Lucas is awake." Farkle says, "No he's-" I cut him off and say, "RANGER RICK WAKE UP!" Lucas shoots up and rubs his eyes and groans, "What'd you do that for." I say, "Eh no reason." He lies down across the three seats and falls back asleep immediately. I say to Farkle, "Maybe we should go back to sleep. Even though we feel refreshed we only got 3 hours." I lied I really got like 12. Farkle says, "Yeah you're right. Goodnight Maya. Sweet dreams." And lays across the seats and closes his eyes. Just before I do the same I see Josh walk in the door. I say quietly but very happily, "Josh!!!" He pulls his hand around from his back with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and says, "These are for my beautiful, strong, and brave little flower. Thanks for doing what you did for my niece and I'm so relieved to see you're okay." I smell the flowers and read the note attached:
"Dear Maya
When I heard the news I knew I had to come over and see you immediately. You had me scared and worried sick, but I knew your strong self would be okay. I love that about you. I also love you. You make me feel very special and happy. I'm so lucky to have you. I love you Maya Penelope Hart. Stay strong for me.

I look up at him and say, "Josh I love you." He smiles widely back at me and kisses me and says, "I knew you did." He keeps his lips locked on mine for the next minute and pulls away and sits down and we talk for the next hour.

Sorry this chapter was like slow then fast it was rushed I promise the next few ones will be better.
