Ninety Nine

Riley's POV:

After talking to everyone for a while it's now 6pm and Maya should be done soon. I check my phone:
6:02pm
5 new messages (Ross) (Justin B) (Rydel) (Riker) (Aunt Morgan)

Ross: i bought wifi on the flight and were about half way there. Can someone please explain what's going on?
Justin B: Riley please.

Rydel: Ross told me somethings wrong. Whatever happened that he had to rush out to NY must be serious and just know we're all here for you.❤️

Riker: hey riles Ross freaked out and ran out of the house bc something is wrong ur way. Just know u can talk to me bout anything. Love u💕

Aunt Morgan: your dad told me everything. I'm on my way to the hospital. Stick tight kiddo.

When Riker called me "Riles" it brought a lump in my throat. Knowing there's a chance I could never hear Maya call me that again is depressing. WHY DID THEY HAVE TO GET HER?
I hope they all get the justice they deserve. Knowing the cops and guards they will.
I calm myself down again and Lucas holds my hand. He says, "I missed you, I haven't seen you in a few days." I give a fake smile and say breathing out, "Sorry I've just been caught up with all
this." He nods, "I understand."
Farkle says, "I know I always said 'everything happens for a reason,' but now I don't. I don't see the reason for this. She didn't deserve that." I agree and turn to Justin who's been quiet the whole time. I ask, "What are you thinking about?" He says quietly, "I just hope she's okay." He lifts up his trembling hand and brushes it through his thick, blonde hair.
Suddenly my aunt Morgan comes into the room quickly. She sits next to my dad and greets us.
I start to think about if we do lose Maya. I could never hear her voice again. I could never hug her again.
I could never lean my head on her shoulder like we always did again.
I could never be able to stay up late till we fall asleep with her again. I could never walk to school with her again.
I could never see her again.
All I would have is pictures and as time passes, the older the pictures get, and more time has gone without her.
I would never have my best friend again.
The more dramatic and carried away with my thoughts I get, the more I cry silently. Lucas wraps his strong arms around my frail body and tries to comfort me.
Aunt Morgan says, "Hey Maya loves music, so let's listen to some to help the mood a bit." She gets out her phone and puts Spotify on shuffle.
The first song sings:

"If I die young-"
She cuts it off and skips to the next song:

"You've been deep in a coma-"
She cuts it off and says, "Okay forget music. The band perry and the vamps have nothing to say right now."

After minutes of silence and reflection, the doctor comes in and says, "Family and friends of Miss Hart?" I shoot up and he says, "Okay you can all follow me." We quickly follow him into a room. He shuts the door behind us and I look into the bed and see Maya. Her eyes still closed, not moving, scattered heart beats. I sigh and he says, "So with the tests we concluded that she is in fact in a coma for the time being from the impact of the bat on her head. This however is not a serious state for her and she most likely can over come it. Most patients take from a few weeks at the most, but I predict only one at that. For some patients, talking to them helps the process a bit-" I tune him out and slowly approach Maya with Josh, Justin, Lucas, and Farkle behind.
I whisper, "Hey Maya. I-uh. So we have good news. They caught your dad and all the men working for him. Sadly, you had to encounter the last one. I really miss you already. I have hope you're gonna be fine, but we won't talk about that part. I got Justin and Ross to come too. They'll be here soon. Everyone's here for you. And I'll never leave your side." I look up with tears dripping down my cheeks and see everyone listening to what I was saying.
Josh kisses her forehead and whispers, "I love you. Even if you can't hear me, I can't go a day without telling you."
