Eighty Two

Riley's POV:

I woke up this morning at 8:30. Kinda early, but oh well. I check my phone:
8:30am
1 new message (Lucas)

Lucas: Goodmorning Princess. Wanna do something today?

I text him back:

Riley: Goodmorning☺️ yeah sounds good. Come over whenever you want
Lucas: sounds good

I roll out of bed and walk out into the kitchen. My mom greets me in a whisper, "Morning sweetie." I say, "Why are you whispering?" She points to the couch and I see Maya asleep peacefully. I nod and mouth ohhh. I whisper, "What happened last night? Is she okay?" She says, "Oh yeah! We just talked about stuff. She just only got a few hours of sleep though." I nod and say, "Yeah she's a busy girl.... Hey you didn't. Uh. Get mad at her for.. You know." She says, "Of course not. I just talked to her like you were saying." I say, "And did she listen?" She shrugs and says, "I hope so." I say, "Anyway. Lucas is gonna come by in a bit probably with Zay and Farkle. Where's dad?" She says, "I think he went out to the store. He'll be back soon." I say under my breath, "Damn." She says, "Excuse me?" I say, "What? I didn't say anything." She shakes her head and says, "Since when do you curse?" I say in defense, "First off I didn't curse. I said damn. It's not that bad. Second I'm 16! I'm not a child." She says, "Whatever. Why is it bad that your father is gonna be home?" Then just what I wanted to happen, the door opens and my dad and Auggie come through holding groceries. He says loudly, "Hey you guys help with the groceries!" My mom and I both shush him and I answer her in a whisper, "Because Lucas is gonna be here and he always embarrasses me!" My dad says still loudly, "I do not!" I whisper yell, "What do you not understand about SSSSSSHHHHH?!" He says, "Everything. Why do I need to shush? I come home to be able to do as I please." I roll my eyes and look over and see Maya stirring awake. I look back at him and say sarcastically, "Good job." I sit down next to her and she looks and smiles at me. I say, "Goodmorning. How are you feeling?" She says groggily and half asleep, "Morning and good I guess." My dad tunes in the conversation as he's putting things away, "Oh Maya I saw Shawn in the store today and he said he has a job upstate this coming weekend and wants to know if you wanted to go." She says rubbing her eyes, "I don't know I might have to fly back out so we can go over the song." I say, "Wait really?" She nods and says, "The move back here is a little hard and almost pointless for me with this stuff, but oh well." I say a little offended, "So you'd just rather stay in LA?" She says, "Well I didn't say that. It would just be better for me in a way, but I'm not gonna leave." I nod slowly and let it go. Either she's just out of it and is saying things she doesn't mean, or Maya doesn't really want to be back in NY. I don't necessarily trust that she'd be better off alone in LA with what she did just in one day.
