Fourty One

Riley's POV:

"I knew it. Maybe Josh doesn't deserve you." Maya stands up and gets defensive raising her voice, "Woah! Take a step back. I never even told you what was going on! It's not even what you're thinking! What the fuck Riley." I say, "Ok. Then tell me. What is going on?" She breaths out and says, "Ross wants me. He wrote me so many paragraphs explaining how perfect I am for him and how he could make me feel like a princess. I told him we shouldn't for media issues, but he kept saying we could keep it as a secret. He said he's willing to wait for me. I don't want to completely push him away. I don't want to date him. I'm just so damn stressed out." Her voice cracks as she says the last sentence. She sits back down and puts her head in her hands. I say, "Listen. If Ross is pushing you to like him, maybe you should just drop him completely." She lifts her head up and says, "No! I'm not gonna loose Ross. Whatever happens down the road I want Ross to still be my friend. He's not pushing me.. He's just.. Confusing me. I love Josh. But maybe Ross and I would be better for the both of us." I start, "If you never even met Ross, both of you guys would still be fine. You're both just thinking too deply and too much into the future. Do what is right in the moment. And I think Josh is right for you." She rubs her forehead and says, "I guess you're right. Thanks Riles. I'm sorry for getting pissed so quickly." I say, "It's okay. I'm getting used to taking this kind of stuff. You're usually the one who can take anything." She smiles and says, "Sorry. I'll try not to put anything on you again. You're usually the one with the problems." I laugh and say, "I guess our roles are changing."
Lucas and Farkle come in the room and ask, "Is everything alright?" Maya answers, "Yeah we're all good."

Later that day, we went out to lunch at Fins. On the drive home Maya says, "Let's go on a road trip. Pack up your stuff. Let's go places. I wanna go." My mouth drops and say, "Woah slow down there. Where'd that idea come from?" She laughs and says, "I don't know! I just wanna have a week or so of relaxation and fun. Let's go!" Farkle Lucas and I all nod in a agreement. I ask, "Where do you want to go?" She says, "Hm. Not sure. Let's just keep driving out and see where we end up. We'll have our phones so we don't get lost." I say, "This is a crazy idea, but I love it. Let's pack!"
When we get home we all rush to our rooms and pack up basically all the clothes we own. Maya says, "Okay here's the plan. For every 4 hours we rotate drivers. Once we've been going for 14 hours, we stop at a hotel or rest stop for the night and continue in the morning. Every pretty or famous sight we pass, we get out and explore!" I say, "This sounds so fun I'm so excited. Who's driving first?" Lucas comes in the room and says, "The order for driving, if you all approve, goes Me, Farkle, Maya, and Riley. Is that okay?" We all nod our heads and walk out the door. Lucas hops in the front seat as we all throw our things in the back. Maya and I are in the backseat and Farkle is in the front with Lucas. Maya pulls out two pillows and a blanket from behind her. I say, "Ahhhh smart thinking. I like it." Maya and I lay opposite of each other with our head on the pillow in front of the window and the blanket over our stretched out legs.
I get up and take a picture with Maya and tweet:
"Road triping with this darlin' (photo from top of chapter)I love you" I look at Maya who's smiling at her phone and looks up at me and says, "I love you too Pumpkin." I lean my head down on the pillow fall asleep almost immediately.

Maya's POV:

"I love you too Pumpkin." I say.
Riley lays her head down on the pillow and falls asleep within seconds. Farkle turns his head and smiles at Riley. I say, "The blanket and pillow was a good idea. She finally got to sleep." He smiles and says, "Yeah. She's an angel isn't she?" Lucas cuts in and says, "She's MY angel." I laugh and say, "Okay there cowboy calm down. No need to get possessive." He smirks through the rear view mirror. I look out the window behind Riley's head and watch as the sun starts to set and everything becomes golden.
I start to drift off slowly watching the palm trees go by.
