Seventy Two

Maya's POV:

After I get off josh, he comes back and tackles me into the couch. I whine, "Josh stop! Come on!" I pull away hard not expecting him to let go right away. I run right into the the wall full of photo frames. I didn't break one thank God. Josh says, "Shit you good?" I laugh and say, "Of course I am." I stand back and admire the pictures of their happy family. My apartment never really had pictures to display. I see a baby picture of Riley and start busting out laughing. Topanga says, "Awe I like that picture! That was her 1st birthday." Riley covers her face in embarrassment. My eyes wander and meet with a picture of me and Riley together (the one at the top of the chapter.) I say, "Riles check this one out." She comes behind me and says, "AWE! I remember that day clearly. That was our first Christmas with you years back." I say, "Yeah.. That was the first time I met Shawn." Cory jokes, "That was the day you took him away from me." I laugh and say, "You'll never forgive me for that will you?" He says, "There's a lot of things I won't forgive you for, but yup that's one of 'em." He's right. I've lead Riley in the wrong direction a lot before. Riley was supposed to be their perfect, innocent, well-behaved, little princess. So if I helped try to loosen her up a bit, it never went well and he would always give me detention and get really mad at me. say, "Well I did a lot of wrongs. Not necessarily serious ones though." He says, "Did you ever learn your lesson in those 1 hour detentions almost everyday?" I say laughing, "No because I could never take you seriously." Riley says, "Plus I'd wait outside the door with her till she could get out. Cory says, "Well watch it because I can still give you detentions." I shrug and say, "Doesn't mean you'd have the guts to." Josh covers my mouth with his hand and Riley says giggling, "You're getting sassy today." Cory stares me down and says seriously, "Maybe next time you don't pay attention in my class you'll get a surprise." I stare at him trying to intimidate him best I can, raising an eyebrow. After a few seconds he says in relief, "OKAY FINE!" I laugh and look away. Lucas stands up and claps, "So what do you guys wanna do today?" I miss the night that him and I snuck out. Minus the kiss. It was generally a fun time. I say, "Maybe we can just go to the other end of the city we've never been to and explore around and then be back by tomorrow." Lucas immediately knew what I was thinking of and winked at me. Farkle says, "That sounds fun." We all get up and Riley says, "Mom, dad. I don't know when I'll be back so either I'll see you tonight or tomorrow." They wave goodbye to her and I assure them walking out, "We'll see you tomorrow." As we get into the lobby Josh says, "I can drive. My cars right around back." We follow him to his car. Josh opens the front door for me and says bowing, "My lady." I giggle and say, "Thank you kind sir." I buckle my seat belt as Riley and Lucas and Farkle get into the back seat.
As we start driving, I turn on the radio. Ariana's new song Focus comes on. I sing it quietly to myself as I look out the window. I zone back to reality when the car swerves and Josh exclaims, "SHIT!"

Oh lawd. What do you think happened? Was it an accident? Was someone in the middle of the road? Or was it nothing?
