Fourty Eight

Ross' POV:

I sat down on the floor beside Maya. I'm so relieved we made it to her house safely. I see her friend Riley shoot up from the couch and runs over to us. She says, "Holy shit you're Ross Lynch. Okay I can't fan girl right now. WHAT HAPPENED WHY DO YOU TWO LOOK SO BEATEN UP? Oh poor Maya. Oh no." Her voice gets shaky when she says the last part. She holds Maya's unconscious face and tears up. I say, "Don't worry Riley. We're fine. We were walking to the beach and Justin came out of no where. He flirted with her and I got pissed at him. He dragged her into an alley way and I followed. The guy that shot her in New York that day was there too. His name is Harvey. They both beat us up really badly. He threatened to kill you so Maya got really defensive. She got punched in the temple so that needs to be attended to right away. But first thing we should call 911 and report them." She looks up at me with a sympathetic look and says, "Oh Ross. Look at you! You're bleeding! Let me fix you up." I say, "No no. Don't worry about me right now. Take care of me if you want later. Right now worry about Maya, I'll call the cops." She nods and runs to the freezer and grabs an ice pack. Maya stirs awake and says weakly, "Ross. Where's Riley?" Riley gets on her knees and puts the ice pack on Maya's head. She says, "I'm right here." Maya says, "I'm sorry." Riley asks, "For what?" Maya says, "This. I should've stayed with you last night." Riley says, "It's okay. It's not your fault." I ask Riley, "Should I bring her to the couch or the bed?" Riley says, "Yeah that's a good idea. Let's bring her to our room." I quickly lift up Maya bridal style and lay her in her bed. I pick up my phone and dial 911 and report Harvey and Justin to the cops. They said they're gonna let us know if they find them.
I walk back into Riley and Maya's room and see Riley attending Maya's bruises. Maya is still a little unconscious. Riley asks, "What did they say?" I said, "They said they heard other people report screams and a bloody alley way so they were already on the case. They said they'd call me back if they caught them." Riley nods her head and dabs my gash on my forehead with a wet paper towel. I flinch every time she touches it. She mouths sorry and continues to clean me up. I thank her and sit down next to Maya. I twirl her hair around my finger and she opens her eyes and says, "Ow. My head hurts so bad I feel so dizzy." I frown and say, "I'm sorry I instigated the whole fight with Justin." She shakes her head and whispers, "It's not your fault." Just as she says that two other guys come into the room. The tall one shakes my hand and says, "Hey Ross. I'm Lucas Friar, Riley's boyfriend." I didn't know Riley had a boyfriend. He's a lucky guy, she's very sweet and cute. I smile and shake his hand back and say, "It's nice to meet you." The shorter one comes up to me and says, "I'm Farkle Minkus. I'm Maya and Riley's fake husband." Fake husband? What? This kid seems weird already. I laugh and pat his shoulder and say, "Nice to meet you Farkle. I'm Ross." Lucas and Farkle say, "Now I don't want to be rude.. But what the hell happened?" I explain them the whole story and Lucas says, "Damn. I'm sorry you guys had to go with that. I hope you're okay." I say, "I'm okay. Just a few bruises and a gash. It's Maya that I'm worried about. Her poor head got punched so hard so many times. She keeps blacking out." They pout and rub Maya's head. Maya opens her eyes and says, "Riles I'm okay you don't need to take care of me... Again." Riley shakes her head and says, "Yes I do. You got really beat up. It's not gonna fly by with me. Why do people have to be like them?" Maya puts her hand on Riley's shoulder and says, "Riley you can't try to fix them or even worry about them. They're criminals. Don't worry about it." She sighs and puts the ice pack back on Maya's head to reduce the swelling.
She sits up and says, "Really. I'm fine now. I think the ice pack is helping numb it." I say to her, "Just lay down to make sure you really are okay." She looks at me with a sympathetic look in her eyes and says, "Ross look at you. Are you okay?" I shrug and say, "Oh yeah I'm definitely fine. Just a cut and bruises. I'll live." She licks her lips and smiles at me. I can tell she was thinking of the kiss. Her eyes were looking at my lips. I missed her lips. Little, soft and perfect lips. I want her so much. I just want to hold her and have her fall asleep in my arms. I don't get what's so great about Josh. I respect him and her together, but I just want to win her over. I know that's wrong to do, but looking at her beautiful, ocean blue eyes, her little lips, her gorgeous long, wavy, blonde hair, and everything about her. It's what I need.
