Maya's POV:

When I opened the door to my apartment I wanted to cry and puke and pass out all at once.
I see my mom laying on the ground bloody and helpless with some man hovering over her with bloody fists. He quickly turns around to face us when I open the door. I keep my eyes on him and say to Riley, "Riley. Leave now you won't want to see this." Her eyes get glassy and she says, "Don't think for one minute I'm leaving you here." The man walks towards me slowly and says with an evil smirk, "Maya. I never thought I'd see you again." I say confidently, "I don't know who the hell you are and to be honest, I don't really give a fuck. What I DO care about is what you think you're doing." I see in the corner of my eye Riley sneakily snap a picture of him. He notices and charges right for her. I scream, "RILEY RUN! FAST! NOW! RIGHT TO THE COPS!" I slam the door behind her just before he can get out there. I use all my strength and stand in front of the door blocking it. My voice cracks and says, "Don't you even think about touching her or my mom anymore. What the fuck were you doing? WHY?! I don't want you anywhere near the people I love." He forcefully grabs me by my neck and punches my face and says, "I'm your father. So when you talk to me I deserve all your respect." And drops me down. I hold my cheek and say, "Why? Just.. Why? Why are you here? I don't even care that you left anymore." He walks back towards my mom and says, "Because you two are so damn useless and helpless. I never wanted you from the start. And your mom is just a mess." I raise my voice and say, "Don't mistake me for what I can and can't do. I promise you, you'll regret saying what you just said about her." My mom coughs and says, "Maya I'm fine. Just go. Leave and be safe. Please." My father backhands her across the face and says, "Oh just shut up."
This is it. I've had enough. I use all the force I have and uppercut him making him fall backwards to the ground. I lift up my mom and shake her, "Mom. Talk to me again. Just keep moving it'll all be okay." Just as I say that Riley rushes back into the apartment with the police. The police go right to my dad and cuff him up. Riley runs to me and hugs me and says, "Thank God you're okay." I say, "He's nothing I couldn't handle." She says, "Sorry this is how you had to meet your dad again.." I shrug and say, "It's okay. I never wanted to meet him anyways. I just hope she's okay." We both look back at my mom who's surrounded by emergency vehicle drivers. A tear drops from Riley's face. I hold her face and wipe her eyes. I say, "I know you're scared. It's all gonna be okay." She throws her arms around me and cries into my shoulder. Riley's the emotional and sensitive type. That's why I have to always be here to comfort her. She expects too much for every one and when it doesn't work out how it should, she gets crushed.
I hold her tight. She says, "I know. I was just really scared I couldn't stop shaking." I say, "I know pumpkin." I pull away when the cops come over to me and say, "Okay well we got everything from your friend here so we don't even need a court trial. He goes right to jail for life and your mom is gonna be fine but she needs to go to the hospital to confirm nothing's broken. So you guys can follow if you want." I nod and say, "We will. Thank you." Riley and I rush down to her apartment to get Topanga. She should be home from work by now. Riley opens the door and says loudly, "Mom whatever you're doing stop we need to go to the hospital RIGHT NOW! I'll explain in the car!" Topanga rushes from down the hall and grabs her keys and follows us out of the apartment and down to her car. She demands, "One of you two explain now!" Riley explains what she saw and then I explain what happened. Topanga says, "I'm sorry Maya. You're very brave for doing what you did and staying so strong." Riley faces me and gives me a little warming smile and says, "Yeah. You're the strongest person I know." I smile and say, "Thank you." And ask, "Do you think I should tell Shawn now?" Riley quickly nods her head and says, "Yes tell him now!" I sigh and pull out my phone and text Shawn:

Maya: alright this is a lot to text so I'll explain in person. Just please come down to the hospital ASAP
Shawn: oh no okay I'm on my way is everyone okay
Maya: I'll explain in person.
Shawn: oh dear.

When we arrive at the hospital we check in and go to my moms room. They said nothing is broken and she can be discharged tonight.
We sit down and I notice Riley staring at me with a concerned look. I raise an eyebrow at her. She touches the bruise on my cheek and I flinch from the pain. She gasps and says loudly, "Did he do this to you?" I bite my lip and say, "Well uh yeah. But Riley I'm fine I've been beaten up before this is nothing." After I said that I remembered I'm in the same room as my and Riley's mom. Shit they didn't know. My mom and Topanga say in unison, "WHAT?!" Topanga says, "Maya why did you keep this from us? This is serious!" My mom raises her voice and says, "Excuse me missy but before you left you PROMISED me you'd tell me everything." Topanga says to Riley, "And you too Riley! What else are you two keeping from us?" And here comes the end of everything. Riley says, "Nothing! That's it. Justin and Harley found Maya and Ross walking down the side walk and they pulled them both into an alley and threatened to kill me so Maya got defensive and they started to beat them. There's nothing else." Thank goodness she didn't tell them about the parties. My mom says, "Oh dear lord! But who's Justin and Harley and Ross?" I say, "Justin is uh. Josh's friend. Harley is the man that Riley and I.. Encountered that one night. And Ross lynch? You don't know Ross lynch?" She says, "Of course I know Ross lynch.. I never would've thought you would meet him. Wow Maya." Damn we really didn't tell them anything. Riley looks at her feet and says, "Sorry." She looks back up at me and pouts. I say, "Stop looking at me like that." She breaths out and says, "I'm sorry. You're just worrying me. This can't keep happening. Are you sure you're okay?" I say, "Yes Riley I'm fine. You can't keep just taking care of me." She says, "If I don't you won't recover. You got sick twice. You got SHOT, you were beaten up badly twice now, and you also came home dru- sick. You came home sick. And I needed to help you." Dammit Riley. I glare at her and my mom says loudly, "Riley.. You stuttered. It sounded like you almost said Maya came home.. Drunk?!" My heart drops to my stomach. I say quickly, "No she didn't mom. I think you're hearing things. She said I came home SICK." She says firmly, "Maya don't you lie to my face. Riley I know you can't. Look into my eyes and say she wasn't drunk. Maya you are WAY too young for that. You know it." Don't blow it Riley don't blow it.

Riley's POV:

"Maya don't you lie to my face. Riley I know you can't. Look into my eyes and say she wasn't drunk. Maya you are WAY too young for that. You know it." Maya gives me a hopeful look. You can do this Riley, just don't crack. I look at Katy and say confidently, "Maya did not come home drunk. She would never touch a drink at her age. All we did was watch pg-13 movies and go to bed by 10." Too much? She pauses and says, "Alright then. Good. Because it's up to you to be her good influence." My mom gives maya a look of disapproval and says to her, "Really. 10 o'clock is the best you can do?" She breaths out from relief and laughs and says, "Sorry! She's passed out by 10:30." Phew. That was waaaaayy too close. I have to start letting Maya talk the whole time.
