Sixty Eight

Riley's POV:

When we get to Topanga's I see Auggie sitting in the front row. I sit next to him with Lucas, Josh, Farkle, and Zay. Maya comes on stage and says enthusiastically into the microphone, "You guys ready?" We all cheer and Maya looks down and notices us and smiles widely at me. I smile back and keep my eyes locked on her. I recognize the song immediately after the first note, Eyes Wide Open.
We sing along every word with her as loud as we can. More and more people start to fill the restaurant.
After she finishes the song she says, "Now for my favorite song off the album. This was written for someone important to me." She looks at me again and gives me a cute, little smile that warms my heart.
We all cheer and the band starts to play, Seamless.
I feel a strong connection with our friendship to every word she sings. I couldn't help but smile during the whole song.
When it's over, she thanks everyone for coming and walks back stage. I get up and run there too. I squeeze her tightly and say, "You're so amazing. This gave me a flashback from tour." She says, "Me too Riles." We stay in our hug for another minute or two. I forgot there's no curtain and the whole crowd starts to Awe at us. We pull away and laugh. Maya hugs my mom and her mom as they congratulate and compliment her, "You were fantastic maya!" "You were great baby girl. Absolutely gorgeous." She thanks them and walks back to the guys. They all hug and compliment her too. Josh says, "Every time I see you I love you more and more. But this. This just made my heart beat out of my chest. You're perfect up there. The stage was made for you." Everyone Awe's again and Maya says, "Thank you love." Maya looks at me and we lock arms and walk out of the restaurant. As we walk down the street I say, "Where do you guys wanna go?" Farkle says, "How about we just go back to the apartment and have a movie marathon?" We all agree and start for my house.
Maya asks, "So are you really afraid to walk around the city now?" I shrug and say innocently, "I don't know. I guess I am." Lucas puts his arm around me and says. "Awe. It's okay don't be scared."
Zay says, obviously not listening to our conversation, "Hey I know a short cut follow me." I yell quickly, "NO!" Maya says, "Don't worry." I say, "No I am gonna worry. I worry about everything and that won't change. I'm not going." Zay says, "It's okay I go this way all the time I promise nothing will go wrong." I sigh and follow behind Maya. She says, "In any situation just don't look terrified. It just makes it worse. Just play it cool and act normal." I nod. As we head down the grey and sketchy street, I don't even want to speak. I start shaking when I notice it's James Street. My heart drops down to my feet. I keep my head down and keep walking straight. Maya says confidently, "It's okay Riles." We walk to the next block on my street in silence. I sprint up the steps and quickly buzz us in. When my dad lets us in I close the door behind me and breath out in relief and slide down the door. Maya sits next to me and says, "See! Nothing went wrong!" Zay says, "Sorry Riley. If I knew you were really shaken up about it I wouldn't have took that way." I say with an attitude, "Why would I not be shaken up about the day I thought I lost my best friend." Maya says, "Woah woah woah. You thought you lost me? Riles.." I say, "Well yeah. Where you were hit and the moment was all just a mess. I didn't know what to think of it. Damn. I was so scared." I let out a little laugh trying to lighten the mood but I couldn't. Lucas comforts me and says, "Well hey. She's here. And she's safe. And so are you. So you don't need to worry about that anymore." I nod and check my phone for the time:
5:55pm

Maya says annoyed, "Oh great. 12 hours from now we'll be up getting ready for school."
