Maya's POV:

I feel my face get red and hot. My eyes open wide and my jaw drops. Topanga says, "You look like you just witnessed a murder. What's wrong?" I swallow and say, "I think I'm about to witness my own." She sighs and leans up against the wall and says, "I heard you come in. And I'm a nosey person so I eavesdropped. It's not because I'm rude, it's because I'm a mother..Maya I do care very much about you and your health too. Why do you even let a drop of alcohol touch your lips at your age? What's the point?" I look down and say, "I. I don't know. Just when someone offers I take it because I don't wanna seem like a child like I already felt to everyone else that was there." I look over at Riley who looks like she can barely keep her eyes open. I lay her down and say, "Get back to sleep." She smiles and falls asleep immediately. I look back at Topanga and she says, "And what about Riley?" I say, "What about her? She's perfect the way she is." She says, "I mean if this does become an addiction when you're older, it's only gonna crush her when you're stuck to an IV in the hospital using up your last few breaths. She loves you very much and I know she couldn't bare if you were gone." I feel a lump in my throat and I say strongly, "Well that's graphic." She says, "But it's gonna be true if you don't change that habit now. Don't crush my daughter..Maya you're not a child to everyone else. If anything you're just the bigger person for saying no. You have to know your own standards and boundaries. When a young and healthy girl like you accepts a drink it's so pointless and stupid. Just don't do it anymore. Got it?" I say, "Okay I think you're taking this too far. Nothing's gonna happen." She says, "Yeah if you continue to be stubborn like that it will. Maya why won't you take my advice and just listen?" Whenever I do get to see my mom which is not a lot at a time, she doesn't even say things like this to me. I know that I'm all she has has and loves and cares about me very much, but she just doesn't always show that she does care. I say, "Because I don't have this at home! I don't have a perfect lawyer mom like you! And I don't have a perfect teacher dad like Cory! I don't have a perfect family that cares about me like you all!" I get up and quickly walk out towards the front door. She follows me and grabs my arm tugging me back saying, "Maya you do! You have us. And your mom is just held up at work. She does care about you a lot. You know that." I relax my tense body and fall to my knees wanting to cry. Why am I such a disappointment? She crouches down next to me and holds me in her arms. I've never really had a moment with my mom like this. It's a whole new feeling of comfort and protection and most importantly: hope. She leads me to the couch and whispers, "Maya, honey, you're a daughter to me. For as long as I've known it's always been Riley and Maya. My two favorite girls who I know couldn't do anything without each other. You've been the role of loosening her up a bit. And she has the role to hold you back a bit. Obviously neither of you are doing your jobs correctly. But that's okay. Because that's what I'm here for. And whether you slip through Riley's fingers or not, I'm here to catch you and help you. I'm not letting you go down that road in life. You hear me? You have too much potential and already made your decision on what you want to do. Don't ruin it by impatience to wait another 5 years. It's NOT worth it. Like you said, you didn't want to turn out to be like that, right?" I nod my head and say lowly, "Thank you Topanga. You're right. Like always." She squeezes me and says, "You okay now?" I nod and let out a little yawn. She says, "Why don't you get to sleep yourself. It's almost 6." I  stretch out across the couch and before I fall asleep, I collect my thoughts. Topanga says as she's making coffee, "Don't you wanna go to Riley's room?" I say, "I dunno. Don't you wanna go back to bed?" She laughs and says, "No, because unlike you kids who sleep for 15 hours, 8 hours is enough for me." I laugh and feel my eyes getting heavier and heavier. Topanga started talking to me again but I completely passed out before I could answer.

I liked this Topanga and Maya mom and daughter moment. Even though they're not mom and daughter it was cute since Maya doesn't get this with Katy. I need some suggestions for the next chapter so help me out if you'd like :)
