Ninety Five

Riley's POV:

As soon as my head hit the pillow last night, I fell right asleep.
Auggie woke us up 3 hours later screaming, "ITS CHRISTMAS! WAKE UP WAKE UP! SANTA CAME!" I have to act really excited despite how tired I am so I say, "Yay! Let's go downstairs and look!" Maya however doesn't hide it and says, "Get off me you little ferret." He gets off her lap and jumps and lays down across her body. We laugh and she groans, "Fine let's go downstairs. Get everyone else up first." He agrees and runs out of the room. I say, "Little ferret? Really?" She laughs and I say, "Remember where that name came from?" She says smiling at the ground, "Yeah. Josh came in the door holding his NYU acceptance letter. We were in 7th grade and I was obviously crazy head over heels for him. I tried to act like I didn't care he was around me, but I couldn't. I jumped on his back and grabbed the letter. He tried to shake me off and called me that. I said it'll affect us together. And actually, it did." I look up and see Josh standing in the doorway grinning. He runs over to her and lifts up her chin and kisses her hard. He holds her face and says into her lips, "I remember that day too. Merry Christmas baby. I love you so much." She hugs him and says, "I love you too." I squeal at how cute they are. Josh hugs me and says, "Merry Christmas Riley. I love you." I say, "Merry Christmas uncle Josh. I love you too." Maya says, "Sometimes I forget he's your uncle. Like you act like friends now." I laugh and say, "Me too. Sometimes I just call him Josh and forget the uncle. Oh well."
Auggie comes back into the room and says jumping up and down, "Everyone's up can we please go downstairs Maya? Pleaseeeeee!" She says, "Yeah okay, let's go." She gets up and he grabs her hand and runs downstairs. I say, "He's more of her little brother at this point." Josh laughs and says, "Let's go." And we walk downstairs to the tree. My mom, dad, Shawn, Morgan, uncle Eric, and my grandparents greet us and we gather around the tree.
I'm so excited to show Maya what I got her. I got her friendship bracelets like the rings we had in 6th grade. Thunder, lightening. Ring power. I thought it'd be really cute and thoughtful. The bracelets can be the new and improved versions of the old rings. She's never gonna see it coming.
I decide to save that for the very last.

Maya's POV:

Okay so don't tell Riley but I got her friendship rings for her last present. I'm so thoughtful I know.
Just like middle school was. Thunder and lightening, ring power.
Josh got me a lot of cute tops and dresses. Riley must've helped or he just has amazing taste. He also did something super cute. He got a Manila envelope and addressed it:
To my precious princess
It was a 3 page long letter about all of his feelings for me and just reminding me of good times from the past with us. I jumped on his back and kissed his neck. He held my legs and turned his neck and happily kisses my check. He makes me so happy. I just got him a bunch of clothes from Hollister and H&M that I thought would look good on him. He also has been wanting this pair of dress shoes so I got those for him. And of course a really cute, joke, Christmas bow tie. He laughed and put it on. He thanked me by attacking me with kisses and cuddles. It was already a great day and it just started. Nothing can ruin it now.
Finally it was Riley's turn. I say, "Okay for this one you gotta close your eyes." She says, "Oo for mine too. Let's do them at the same time." I agree and get the ring. I close my eyes for her and she closes her eyes. I slip the ring on and I feel her slip something on my wrist. Then I put the other ring on my hand and say, "Okay.. Open!" We open our eyes and the smiles on our faces fall. We say I unison, "UNBELIEVABLE." Everyone laughs and Topanga says, "What's the problem? Those are adorable." I say, "It's a friendship bracelet isn't it."
She nods and says, "And this is a friendship ring isn't it."
I nod and say, "Of course we had the same idea."
We laugh and pull into a tight hug. I say into her shoulder, "Thank you Riles. I love it." She says, "You're welcome. And thank you peaches. It's perfect."
After we opened all the presents, we had a Christmas breakfast and walked around the park by the lake. It's been a tradition.
Riley, Josh, Auggie, Morgan, and I walked ahead of the parents with Randy. I was kinda forced to not be alone now until we get this sorted out.
Riley puts her head on my shoulder and says in a little voice, "Maya?" I say, "What's wrong, Riles?" She says, "I'm scared that he's around here."
I rub her head comforting her, "Hey it's okay. We have Randy. Don't trust his threat. I promise it'll be okay." She says shakily, "I don't want to lose you." When she talks like this it makes me really nervous. I mean I WAS threatened. I don't wanna die..
I say, "I know. And I don't wanna lose you either. And we won't if we stay strong through this." She nods and says, "Okay. I hope you're right."
I do too...

Oookkkaaaayy kinda boring but cute chapter. Next one will be leading up to THE chapter. That's all I'm gonna say🙈 what are your thoughts so far?
