Seventy Three

Maya's POV:

"SHIT!" The car jerks and swerves in the road. I yell concerned, "OH MY GOD WHAT WAS IT!?" Josh laughs and doesn't say anything. I say panicked, "What's so funny?" He says through his laughs, "I'm just kidding. There was nothing." I scoff and flip him off. Riley picks up her head off Lucas' shoulder and says, "Seriously Josh. I was actually in peace." Lucas says wiping his shoulder, "No you were just asleep. And drooling." I giggle and stare back out the window. Josh says, "Come on I need you to be my directional." I say, "Fine. Turn left here." He says as he's turning the wheel, "Really?" I say mocking his tone, "I'm just kidding. That's not the turn." He laughs and says, "I deserved that." I say miserably, "Yeap." Farkle says from the backseat, "Maya you don't seem very happy." I threaten back, "I will kill you." He leans back and says, "Jeesh." Josh says, "So where are we going anyway?" I shrug and mumble, "I don't know." He says, "What? Then where should I go?" I say annoyed, "I don't know Josh just keep driving. Damn Lucas was better at this-" oh fuck. I quickly say back, "I mean would be better because he's. Uh. A cowboy and they do this.. A lot... Yeah." Lucas kicks the back of my seat and I sigh at myself. Josh raises an eyebrow but keeps his eyes on the road. He doesn't say anything back and leaves the car awkwardly silent. Riley says, "Uh..how about we just get out now we've been driving an hour." Josh nods in relief and pulls into a restaurant parking lot. He gets out and opens the door for me and holds my hand walking in. The hostess says, "How many?" Josh says politely, "Just us 4 please." She smiles and leads us to our table and says, "Your waitress will be with you momentarily." We nod and she walks away. Riley is sitting next to me with Josh across from me, Lucas across from her, and Farkle next to her. We look at the menus and Riley  nudges me to check my phone:

Riley: you have to tell Josh eventually about that night..
Maya: I can't.
Riley: he's gonna question you being sketchy and it's gonna be worse if he finds out rather than you telling him Maya: I can't tell him I kissed another guy.
Riley: but he slept with another girl...
Maya: drunk. I was 100% sober. I'm not telling him. I can tell him we snuck out but even that will get on his nerves
Riley: No it wouldn't
Maya: erm yeah it would the fact I went out with Lucas instead of him. Think about that
Riley: yeah... Well trust me he'll forgive you. He deserves this after what he's done lately.
Maya: I guess.

I put my phone away and look up at Josh's big, warm, brown eyes staring into my ocean, ice, blue eyes. He says, "Everything okay? You seem a little off today." I fake a smile and say, "Sorry. I'm okay." He gives a thumbs up and I give him one back. Riley says, "So Lucas." Lucas lifts up his head and raises his eyebrows and says, "Yeah?" She starts, "Remember in 8th grade you and Maya dated a little while?" I say quickly, "No no Riley. None of that." Lucas says in a small voice, "Why are you bringing this up?" Riley says, "Do you ever think about it? Perhaps. Oh I dunno. Miss her lips?" Josh punches the table and jokes, "Objection!" I say slightly annoyed, "Riley what are you doing?!" Lucas gazes at me with a concerned look and says to Riley, "I-no I only want yours." I breathe out deeply in relief and make the sign of the cross. I say, "Good answer." Riley says, "Well yeah but haven't you ever just wanted to kiss her when it was maybe just you two?" She's purposely interrogating him to blurt out that I kissed him. I push her out of the booth and smile at Josh. He says, "Listen I know you kissed Lucas." I say blankly, "What?" Lucas copies, "What?" Farkle says confused, "What?" Riley lifts her head up, "What?" Josh giggles to himself and says, "I know Riley was trying to get him to admit. It's okay." I don't answer. I continue to stare into blank space trying to get my thoughts together. He knows. Yet he doesn't...Care. Is that possible? He gently holds my chin and turns my face to his and says, "I'm not mad. I deserved it. Plus like Riley said, you used to date so it's not like it didn't happen before." I snap out of my thoughts and blink quickly shaking my head. Lucas looks at Josh with a sympathetic look and says, "I-I'm sorry man. It was just in the moment." Josh laughs and says, "It's okay. I get that she's banging as fuck." I jokingly scoff and I turn to Riley and say, "I-I'm sorry man. It was just in the moment." We all laugh and Riley says, "It's okay. I get that he's banging as fuck." And winks at Lucas. I'm so relieved. I feel like a huge boulder was lifted off my chest. I lean my head in my arms and loudly breathe out. Riley pats my back and says, "Feel better about it?" I vigorously nod my head.

Who was surprised that Josh wasn't mad about Maya and Lucas? I was thinking about the tons of different ways this could've taken but I think I wrote the right one ;) haha thanks for reading bye <3
