Ninety Three

Maya's POV:

I woke up this morning snuggled up to Josh's chest with our legs intertwined and his arms holding me. I take my hand off his chest and rub my face. I groan and look around confused. Josh stirs awake and says in his morning voice I love, "Hey babe." I say groggily and confused, "How'd I get here? I was in Riley's room." He smiles and says, "You were sleepwalking. You were saying something, but I was like half awake I don't remember it. I just lifted you in my arms and you fell right back asleep again. So I kept you here." I furrow my eyebrows and say, "Really? Jeez. What time is it?" He checks his phone and says, "10:00am" I say, "We better get ready." He whines, "No wait I just want to keep us here." He squeezes me in his grip and kisses the top of my head softly. I smile and lift my head up and kiss his lips. I fix my position so I'm on my stomach. I wrap my arms around his neck and rest my head facing the front door on his chest. I smile and say, "This is perfect." He says, "You're perfect." I bury my face in his chest and say, "I love you." He kisses me hard and says, "I love you so much." I say, "I never want to forget this moment." He says, "I know I won't. Even if we break up or hate each other. Nothing will make me forget you and how perfect this is right now." That made my heart melt. Never in a million years would I thought someone could care about me this much. I smile into his chest and say, "Stop making me feel all emotional." He laughs and says, "Sorry princess."
Riley shuffles into the room with a big yawn. I say, "Hey Riles." She says clueless, "Where the hell did you go last night?" I laugh and say, "Apparently I slept walked." She says, "Oh. You used to do that a lot." I say, "Really? This is the first I'm hearing of that."
Riley says yawning again, "What time is it?" I say, "A little after 10." Her eyes open wide and says, "Everyone's supposed to be here by-" she gets cut off with the door opening and her parents and grandparents coming through. She continues with a sigh, "10." I quickly get off Josh and stumble off the couch. I turn away from everyone and run to Riley's room with her behind. We close the door and laugh. She says, "Wanna get in the shower first?" I say, "Nah I'll just run home and get ready there." She frowns, "Are you sure?" I laugh, "Riles I'll be back." And climb out the window.
I run up to my apartment and buzz in. My mom buzzes me back in. I walk in and say, "Hey ma'." She says with a smile, "Hey honey. We're gonna head over to the Matthews in a little bit, okay?" I say, "Yeah I know I just came home to shower." She nods and I rush into my room. I pick out my sweater and leggings and heels to wear. As I close my drawer I hear my window glass shattering and some projectile came through and smacked against the door. A shard of glass flew into my arm. I say loudly, "What the fuck?!" My mom runs in and says shakily, "What happened? OH Maya sweetie your arm. Okay okay I'll go get a paper towel." I pick up the rock that was thrown through the window and read a note attached:
"Don't think I won't get you. You're not safe anywhere. Not even your little body guard or friends can help you now. They'll be next after we take care of you. I promise you that
Xoxox"
My jaw drops and I and shiver from the note. My mom runs back into the room and carefully cleans my arm. I shakily hand her the note speechless. She reads it and starts to cry. Fury fills my eyes. Whoever this is isn't gonna be happy when I find them. My mom says, "No no no you're not gonna do anything. We just need to keep you safe." Did I say that out loud? I groan and say, "Wanna bet?" I clean up the glass and put it in the garbage. She says nervously, "This could be nothing honey! Maybe it's just one of your haters." I say, "I bet it's dad." She shakes her head and holds my shoulders and says, "Whoever this is we're gonna handle this. Everything's gonna be okay." I shake my head and say, "I'm not worried about me. I'm worried about everyone I'm around. I could be a danger to you guys. I need to leave." She says, "No! We're gonna stick with you through this. It could just be another threat from some ignorant person." I say, "Stop being so naive. My God mom don't you see? This one was taken too far. Who else would know where I live? Dad. Who else would want to harm me? Dad. He threatened you! That's not gonna fly with me." She says, "Let's just get this to the police. And good thing we have Randy downstairs always." I pick up the rock and the note and follow my mom to her car. Everything is my fault.
What a great holiday.

Uh oh. Is Maya right? Is it her dad that's threatening them? Or is it just a random hater of her music? Either way, will they be safe?
