“Death sentence? Seriously?” I jerked up in my chair.

“Yeah, the police found other accounts of attempted murder and assaulting policemen. Crazy, isn’t it?” Amelia explained to me.

“I can’t believe she’s going to be ex--” I was interrupted by our teacher coming into the room.

“Alright ladies and gents, today we’re going to be in the Auditorium for an assembly.” He told the class and everyone looked around at each other since there was no scheduled assembly to happen today. “I know, I know, but something tragic happened in school yesterday and today and the Board of Education would like to confront all students about it.” I immediately looked over at Greyson and Amelia, knowing it was about Blakely. Over the intercom, our Principal called down all classes to the Auditorium, and we all left the classroom.

“Skye, what exactly happened yesterday?” Greyson asked me, so I filled him in on all of it. “So when is this going to happen, the execution?” He gulped in his words. I looked over at Amelia, since she knew the most.

“Today at 1PM. Close friends and family are allowed to watch, if they want. It‘s going to be held at the hospital.” She explained to us.

“Do you plan on going, Mel?” I asked her, not sure if I wanted to go, myself.

“Well, I’d like to go and say goodbye, but not to watch. I wouldn’t be able to handle it.” She told me, and I agreed.

“Are the guys going?” Greyson asked, “You know, One Direction.”

“I think only Zayn. He didn’t want the others to go.” Amelia answered.

“Mel, I don’t think I could handle it all. I mean, I know I didn’t like her as much as you and Lay, but still. I can’t watch someone die at my own will.” I told her. “Grey, would you be able to come? I know you weren’t that close, but I’ll need a good friend with me.” He nodded, then pulled me in for a hug.

“How’s Layla taking it?” Greyson asked Amelia.

“So far, she hasn’t been crying. I’m pretty sure she’s coming tonight, not watching though.” Amelia answered. We were all sat next to each other during the hour and a half long assembly.

That Afternoon, 12:45 PM

“Skylar! Mel! Greyson!” Layla stood up from sitting by Zayn and ran to give us all a massive hug.

“Hey Layla, Zayn, how are you guys taking this?” Amelia asked them, then Zayn nodded and walked over by us.

“Nice to meet you, I’m Greyson.” He put his hand out for a shake, and Zayn accepted.

“Zayn, nice to meet you.” He quietly said. “How are you guys taking it?” He asked us.

“Surprisingly well.” I stated, going for a weak smile, but no one else obliged.

“Five minutes people.” A police officer came out and told the group, then walked back into the room with Blakely. We all took our seats and waited for the ceremony. The same officer came out and began to speak. “Blakely Paige Harrison, 18, Senior, Biology Major. Sadly for Blakely, she made some wrong decisions and that’s why we are gathered here today. In about two minutes, Blakely will be executed on the Electric Chair. You may watch if you please, or if not, you may leave when we sound the alarm.” The officer explained the procedure, then walked back into the room with Blakely attached to the chair.

Zayn, Amelia, and Layla all began sobbing as soon as they turned the switch for the Chair to go off. I turned away into Greyson’s arms, Layla and Amelia into Zayn’s. It was too much to bear, and we left within a minute into the torture. However, when we exited the room, Zayn was nowhere to be found.
