*Jessie's pov*

We spent the rest of the journey singing along to CDs. We would often pause the track and put our own spin on it. We'd add different harmonies, change the tempo, added some riffs I don't think I've ever had such a fun car journey to be honest, and that's saying something. We stopped singing along when we arrived at the big power station that isn't too far away from her grandma's.

"Turn right here." Emma pointed out. She said not to trust the satnav so I used her as one. "There should be a pub at the end of this street." She announced after me turning the car right.

"You think?! Are you sure you know where we're going?" I asked concerned.

"Of course I do! Just look where your driving." I snapped my head back to the road.... I know why it took me five times to pass my test now, but there was the pub. The Fox. It doesn't look like a bad place to be honest. For a pub.

"Okay, okay I trust you." She smiled. I really love that smile.

"Now drive straight on." She added as we came to a T junction.

"Are you being serious?" There was only an option to go left or right.

"Yeah the drive is straight ahead and slightly to the left." I sighed and did as I was told. As I came closer it became more apparent to me where the drive actually was. I sighed in defeat and earned a laugh from Emma.

After parking the car I moved to get out but Emma grabbed my hand. I turned to look at her and her face was serious.

"I'm scared Jess." She confided.

"Why are you scared babe?" I asked looking into her beautiful eyes.

"I don't know what she's going to be like. I don't know if she knows. I don't know if I'll be able to explain again." Emma looked down at her hands and sighed. Tears brimming her eyes.

"I'll be there. I'll always be there to help you." I smiled to reassure her. This must be awful. She's not even an adult yet and she's gone through more shit than most adults on this planet. I pulled her in for a hug that lasted probably too long.

"Let's go and face the truth." Emma sighed and hopped out of the car.

"Emma? I didn't know you were coming up! How wonderful to see you! Where's mum? Have you got a new car? Who's this?"

"Grandma! It's great to see you too! This is Jess, she's my best friend who has brought me up for a quick visit, we have to leave not long after lunch. As to mum..." Emma sighed. I felt so bad. First I was friend zoned. Ouch! Second she has to explain what's happened yet again. "I think we should sit down." Emma looked at me. I half smiled. She knows what she's going to have to say as of it's a rehearsed speech.

To say that Emma's grandma, or Marjory as she told me to call her, was in pieces was an understatement. Emma was crying too and I felt so awkward. I felt a tear roll down my cheek as I looked at Emma. She was broken. Completely broken and it's going to take a lot to fix her. But I'm determined to do just that.

Emma got up and walked out of the room. I followed her out and found her sat on a stool by a table. On the table was a telephone. Emma was flicking through a small book. My guess was that it was an address book. I knelt down beside her and took the book out of her hands. "Who are you looking for?" I asked her flicking through the book myself.

"My uncle Steve. He'll be under 'W' I think." Emma struggled with her words.

"Are you going to tell him?" I asked, she just nodded, unable to speak. "Do you want me to tell him?" She nodded again and rested her head on my shoulder.
