Chapter 87 - The Heartbeat That Stole Her Heart

*Emma's pov*

I hadn't done PE since Jess had left. Lucy had always managed to get me out of it somehow. I'd just never felt right to do. I had always thought of PE as something happy to do and I was definitely not happy so I didn't do it. And I never had the energy either. However today Lucy forced me to do it. "I've had enough. You're doing it whether you like it or not." So I'm stuck doing shitty running exercises on the AstroTurf last thing on a Tuesday.

I used to be quite good at running and didn't really mind it. That was until Jess left. The reason for my sudden burst of unfitness is probably due to the fact that I'm not really sleeping or eating anymore. I know Jess would go nuts if she ever found out, as Clair hasn't hesitated to remind me at least a million times, so let's not tell her, yeah? Things will be back to normal by the time she gets home in a few weeks. I just NEED to finish my project before she gets back. I'm rearranging I Miss Her because I do miss Her. Her being Jess, but missing her for different reasons. I've changed some of the lyrics to fit my situation. I've nearly finished now though.

Half an hour into the lesson I was exhausted, sweaty, dizzy and in need of a drink. "Come on Em!" Charlotte encouraged as she over-took me.

"I'm just getting a drink." I breathed out and somehow managed to walk over to the fence where my bottle of water lay on the floor.

"Another reason why you should eat and sleep." Clair spoken from behind me.

Not useful right now. I thought as I took a swig of my drink.

"I'm just saying." Clair disappeared to wherever it is she goes. I've now gotten used to thinking what I want to say to Clair rather than speaking out loud to her whilst I'm in public, although I still do the facial expressions apparently. Awkward.

My drink somehow sent me round the bend. I started hearing Jess talking to Lucy. I didn't dare look over though in fear of being disappointed. Well I would be disappointed because Jess is still in America. However 'hearing' Jess' voice gave me a burst of energy. I wanted to make her proud. "When you get to the penalty spot make a sharp turn and sprint towards me!" Lucy shouted and Jess giggled. So that's what I did. I took a ninety degree turn at the penalty spot and looked towards Lucy to see how far I'd have to sprint. The whole length of the AstroTurf. Great. At least Jess was there- What? I stopped immediately causing three people to run into me.

"Sorry." I muttered as I shook my head. I need to pull myself together. I looked up once more and she was smiling at me, ignoring everyone else and smiling at me. She smirked and winked whilst I blushed and bit my lip.

"It's Jess. She's back early." Clair spoken in my ear.

I released my lip from my teeth as a grin spread across my face. I filled up with happiness inside and instantly felt a burst of energy surge through me. My legs started moving quickly. Faster than they had ever moved before as they took me towards Jess. I ran past the fastest girls in my year, dodging and moving past them as Jess opened her arms. As soon as I was a meter away I launched myself into her arms and wrapped my legs around her waist. How she managed not to fall over I'll never know. "I can't believe you're here." I wrapped my arms tightly around her shoulders. Jess giggled and I grinned into the crook of Jess' neck.

"I missed you too much." She squeezed me softly.

"I missed you too. I love you so much." I softly kissed her neck.

"Girls, go and get a room." Lucy muttered from beside me. I pulled away from Jess' neck to look at her face. Her beautiful smile taking up the majority of it.

"You know I think my English room is free right now." I winked and an audiable gasp spread through the group. "I'm joking. Seriously, chill." Jess laughed awkwardly.
