Lan Zhan's Untamed (Lan Zhan x Wei Wuxian)

Lan Zhan, Can I ask you a question?

"Hey, that was my hot steamy bun!" Wei retorts as I take a bite of it and chew.

"Hm" is my only reply to his reaction and I laugh internally when he looks agitated. I know there is no anger behind them, but right now, he looks too adorable.

"Lan Zhan!"

"Hm"

"You were never like this before" he pouts as he walks by my side.

"What do you mean?" I finish the bun and then ask.

"You were always polite. Never teasing me back" he stops and turns to look at me "you have changed" he looks at me directly and it seems he's peering into my soul.

I have changed, my Wei Ying. Who says I haven't?

"Lan Zhan?"

"Hm"

"Lan Zhan, can I ask you a question?" He looks so serious. What could he want to know?

"Hm" I nod and after a quick beat he enquires "What were you doing for last 13 years?".

His question is simple, yet it rips my heart out. 

What was I doing for last 13 years? What do I tell you, Wei Ying? That I was incapacitated for those three years? That I was mourning your loss? That I was shunned by my own clan? That I was wailing everynight? That, I was yearning for you to call me Lan Zhan? That I was taking care of the young infant you left behind? That I was happy when I saw the peony bloom or cried when it snowed? Or those countless letters I wrote to you or the number of jars of Emperor's Smile I hid under my bed? Or when I was asleep I was at peace because I saw you there and when I woke up, it was nightmare for me? That every night, I played countless number of Inquiry? That I was so drunk and in pain that I became immune to the liquor or that I scarred myself for eternity? What was I doing for last 13 years Wei Ying?

I was waiting for your return.

I don't know what he saw in my eyes, but something made him not want to hear my answer. He jumped right in to tease me "I bet you were meditating under that Peony tree in Jingshi, am I right?"

No, you're not wrong. I was meditating. To forget my pain, I kept myself away from the worldly affairs.

"You're right, I was simply meditating" I look at him and his smile dims a little. He knows I am not revealing the complete truth. He did see my scars.

"Lan Zhan?"

"Hm"

"Who is it that you like?" His question surprises me and I look at him "What?"

"Last night, you said you like someone. Who is it?" He enquires at his eyes change. They're careful.

You, Wei Ying. Always you. But love, you're not ready to hear my answer. When I don't give him a reply, he carefully questions further "Do I know that person?".

Time passes by and I slowly nod. His eyes though guarded, smiles "Alright Lan Zhan, good going" he walks away and I follow his footsteps.

Walking together, the peace between us is not comfortable nor strained, it's just hanging between us, when suddenly he sprints and I call his name. He's about to jump into a pond, when I catch hold of his waist and pull him to me. His chest collides with mine and his hands band around my shoulders "Lan Zhan?" He whispers and his scent engulfs me.

"What are you doing?" I ask scared and confused. What was he planning on doing?

"Lan Zhan, relax. See" he points me to the berries by the pond "I just got excited, it's been a decade, I haven't eaten them" he looks back wantonly.

"You're not wearing the right boots, had I not caught you, you would have slipped and fallen into the marsh. Wait here" I command and step forward. Crouching, I slowly pluck few of them and hand it to Wei Ying, who grins back and stuffs two into his mouth.

I admire his lips when I suddenly hold back the gasp as I watch the juice of the berry trail from the side of his lips.

"What are you looking at Lan Zhan?"

"Hm? Nothing" I turn away and continue our journey.

"Lan Zhan?"

"Hm"

"I am sorry" he whispers and my steps halt. I turn to look at him and his eyes are sad
"Years ago I asked you if you wanted to come to Yunmeng with me to eat lotus pod, I am sorry I could never ask you again"

"Why did you insist on taking me there?" I enquire, curious to know.

"I wanted to share something of mine with you" he simply states and I look into his eyes.

"Ask me again Wei Ying!"

"Um, what?"

"Ask me again" I insist and he smiles "Lan Zhan, will you come with me to Yunmeng to eat lotus pod?".

Inwardly, I sigh. It's been more than a decade since I longed for him to ask me this question.

"Hm" I nod slightly and he looks ecstatic.

"Alright, whenever I get a chance" he turns to look at me, his eyes are a little sad but his smile does not wane "I'll take you with me, we'll eat the best lotus pod" he laughs and starts walking.

I as usual follow him and smile.

Yes Wei Ying, wherever you go, I'll follow you. Even if it is at the end of time. You have my word, my love.
