(This chapter is purely based on Lan XiChen's POV)

Seeing my brother being happy is something this old heart had always yearned for. When Wangji was born, I had made a promise to my mother that as his elder brother, I would always keep him above me.

I tried.

I failed.

But I knew one thing for sure is that this soul of mine never gave up.

I remember that day vividly when he was 5 years old. Wangji was a child who never smiled nor spoke beyond required. But that day, it was his eyes that spoke to me. For the first time ever, I saw them kindled with unparalleled happiness.

But that too did not last for long, as time went on the kindled happiness within dimmed until it was non-existent.

I started loosing hope, wondering if Wangji would ever be happy again. But then as they say miracles do happen.

That miracle was Wei Wuxian.

The moment he barged into my brother's life I knew it won't be an ordinary journey. One thing was for sure I nor anyone would have expected it to take such an drastic turn of events but in the end they were meant to be united and that's all I wanted.

A day ago when Wei Wuxian came to meet me in my chamber, I should have anticipated his move. I wasn't surprised but it pleased me immensely, which brings me to the present.

My boat anchors at the docks of Lotus Pier, it was a familiar purple robe that brings a warm smile to my face.

Jiang Cheng.

A boy who I knew would one day become a man, a leader, that his father belived in. It is when I think of him that makes me feel sad for he too was a victim in the cruel games of power and politics. Blindsided to what was right and wrong, a young boy barley of an age where he wasn't even 18 years old, took over the reins of building up the entire sect.

None to guide him, sadly became a pawn in the hands of powerplay. He wasn't even allowed to grieve when the burden of the Sect was thrown onto his feeble shoulders.

Was he wrong? Was he right?

Some questions probably don't deserve an answer.

The right question what one could seek is that 'Is Jiang Cheng redeeming himself?' then the answer would be 'Yes'.

Taking care of a child, two Sects single handedly is not an easy feat. Giving up one's own life to lead for another is something that I truly can understand and thus I know that this man has a pure soul. He has suffered all alone, quietly, without a shoulder to cry on and yet is one of the finest warrior that this realm has seen.

One often sympathizes with Wangji and Wei Wuxian but never with another soul who lost as much as them.

Jiang Cheng.

Whilst Wangji's temper could be associated with ice, Wei Wuxian with fire, it is Jiang Cheng's personality which can be attributed to fury. That was his coping mechanism.

A lotus amongst the marsh. Truly alone as no one wanted to get dirty but he grew well and proud. He wasn't afraid to get dirt on himself for he knew his foundation was strong. He bloomed when it was dark. He bloomed even during the torrential parts. He knew he had to survive and that's what he did best.
