All eyes were on us as no one had expected the events would turn out to be completely in contrast to what they had hoped for. They sought the defeat of my Wei Ying and here they are, helpless, in loss of their spiritual power and taking shelter under the man whom they abhorred. As for Wei he stopped caring long ago.
I watched my uncle mend the incantation on the ground as his eyes then moved over Wei. I could see, he was not happy with the current situation but yet chose not to speak. His eyes met mine and they continued to convey the great disappointment in me, but like Wei, even though it hurt, I needed to stop caring. The last time I hesitated, I lost him forever. Fate has been kind enough to give me a second chance, I am not going to give him up. Never.
He turned his gaze away from mine and rudely questioned Wei, “What are you planning?”
Wei smiled as he sat down on the stairs, “Nothing. But since you’re all here, how about we asses this situation”. The cultivator from before shouted, “There’s nothing for us to assess, you should be sent back to hell!”
Wei looked back at the cultivator calmly "How can you say that? Aren't you least bit curious as to how you all have lost your spiritual power? You're all giving me too much credit if you think I am behind this deceit."
Nie HuaiSang, the head shaker was quick to respond, “ I think Wei Wuxian is right this time" and I look at him. Impressive. As for the other cultivators they chose to ignore his comment.
Wei continued with contemplation, "Anwer this, did any of you consume any kind of food or water before coming up here?" Some shook their heads "no we didn't" they answered. Wei looked at me "If they haven't consumed anything, then it couldn't be food poisoning"
Sizhui was quick to question "Senior Wei, I have never heard of any poison that could dissolve one’s spiritual powers. Jingyi have you heard about this?”. Jingyi shakes his head "I haven't either".
Looking at Sizhui, I realise this is probably the first time he has addressed Wei as Senior Wei, the pride in my heart swells.
"We have medical practitioners amongst us, maybe they could give us some insight?" another cultivator gives their suggestion. Calling forward the practitioners, each of them are questioned "Is the disappearance of our spiritual powers temporary or permanent?". A moment later, they receive the news "All your golden cores are unharmed. There’s no need to worry! It should be temporary."
Hearing that it was temporary, Jiang Cheng heaves a sigh of relief. "How long would it take to recover?” One of the medical practitioner looks around worried that the rest might not appreciate the answer "At least for another four hours". Jiang Cheng’s face was terrifyingly dark, "Four hours!!!".
The danger still lurked outside and with all their powers vanquished, this was not a good sign. Inwardly I wanted them to realise their mistake. When you blindly follow some random instructions of someone, often you could land up in a mess you didn't want to be in.
Each and everyone present here wanted glory. However small, atleast they had a hand in defeating The Yiling Patriarch. Now they were unsure of their own future.
"Lan Zhan" Wei whispers "I feel bad for them" his eyes look around and my heart melts. How could you still find it in your heart to feel sad for them. Give them a chance and they'd kill you right here, my Wei Ying.
