Lanterns ~ A Bow ~ A promise

Jin Ling's POV:

"Hey" I hear her soft sweet voice and turn around just to be awe struck once again. Good heart please be still. Gusu's beauty is nothing compared to Wu Meiming.

"You were looking for me" her eyes were kind as she joined me on the marble bench facing the mesmerizing sunrise. The hues of pink kissed her skin and made them glow. At that very moment I wished to caress her cherry like cheeks. "Jin Ling?" she shakes me out of my reverie and I reply "Jin RuLan. That's my name and I wish you to call me by that very name. Only you" I smile and she casts her eyes down shyly.

"I like you" I state boldly only to be met by her incredulity.

"What?" her voice was a mere whisper and I look into her eyes "If one thing I have learnt from my uncle Wei Wuxian is that never wait to confess your heart. Maybe that's one good thing I did learn from him afterall" I grin and she smiles softly.

"Wu Meiming, soon my studies in Gusu would be completed and I would have to head back to LanLing Jin Sect. Once there, I have a long battle ahead of me. I need to change so many rules and regulations, abolish corruption and greed. I need to prove my worth as the next leader which will not be easy for me. I no longer wish to burden uncle Jiang Cheng too. He has his own Sect to take care."

Facing her I continue "the reason for me to tell you all this is because I really like you. I need to bring back the lost glory of the LanLing Jin Sect so that I can make it a better place for you. I wish that you could be by my side and rule my Sect along with me. Wu Meiming, I don't wish to pressurise you. Uncle Wangji said that patience is the virtue of love and I will wait but if you chose not to be with me then don't fret. I hope we can have a wonderful friendship instead".

She was quiet and I did give her the requisite space. Afterall what I just confessed was not easy for me too.

"By when do you want me to give you an answer?" she enquires softly and I smile.

"Tonight is the famous Lantern Festival of Cloud Recess. Years ago my uncles lit the lantern together and it is said that if one lights it with a pious heart along with his loved one, they would be together forever. It was true for Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian. It was true for my parents too. I wish to light the lantern with you. If you feel I am worth your heart then tonight, light the lantern by my side but remember I won't be in a position to take you along with me to LanLing Jin Sect at this very moment. So you might have to wait for few years but know, that this heart belongs to you" confessing my heart, I turn to leave when she gently holds my wrist and her gaze finds mine "Jin RuLan" her voice is steady.

Time stands still and that's when I got the meaning of what uncle Wangji said. Love is beautiful. If it's yours then in the end it's all worth the pain.

Lan Jingyi's POV:

Standing afar, Sizhui and I watch the young mistress confess his heart to Wu Meiming and today we were genuinely happy for Jin RuLan. He deserved this happiness. He has been far too lonely to walk the realm without a companion.
