Acceptance

I have gone back in time where I feel like a child kneeling before my uncle who looks as authoritarian as ever. Under today's circumstances, it's both Wei Ying and me occupying a seat in front him whilst he is staring at us and we both have no clues as to how this is going to proceed. It's been about ten minutes since he asked us to take a seat opposite to him and has been caressing his beard with some contemplation.

Finally with a deep sigh he looks at Wei Ying and enquires "Do you promise to abide by the Gusu Rules?"

"Uncle" I interrupt when he glares "I am talking to Wei Wuxian here" his voice is stern "answer me boy!"

"Yes" Wei smiles and I turn to look at Wei. No. Please don't but before I could comment he continues "If that's the answer you expected then I regret to state that you're sorely mistaken. I won't be the man Lan Zhan fell in love with if I start following all the rules. I am a man who follows his principles and his heart. Not rules and Elder Lan, I am sure you're aware of that by now" he smiles and bows.

Uncle's eyes subtly changes and that's one thing I notice. Is... It compassion?

"Wei Wuxian" uncle continues "yes I know what kind of soul you are and I admire your honesty but there is one rule that I want you to follow. I don't care if you break all the 3999 but one rule you must follow and I shall insist upon that!"

"What is it elder Lan?" Wei Ying enquires and Uncle answers a moment later.

"Never leave Wangji alone" he commands and we both gasp. My heart shudders and I Wei's hand immediately clasps mine below the table "do you think you can abide by that one rule? Do you promise me that you will always think of him and never leave him again?"

Wei's eyes glow with warmth as he changes his position to the one of kneeling as he bows his head and solemnly affirms "Elder Lan the reason I came back to the realm of living is so that I can live with my Lan Zhan. The promise that I made back then I could fulfil them but one I couldn't was to be with him. I promise to abide by this rule and if for some reason I am unable to, I give you the right to haunt me for eternity" he grins and my uncle huffs.

"Treat him well. I don't wish to see you even after my life. Universe knows one lifetime is enough" though he says this sternly, his eyes crinkle and Wei laughs.

He signals a disciple waiting outside his chamber "Please escort XiChen in here" the disciples bows and leaves. Uncle glares at Wei and enquires in his own way "Do you know how to pour teas?".

"Sure" Wei looks perplexed and I gesture him to pour a cup for uncle. He quickly obliges by pouring one cup for uncle and another for me. Uncle eyes Wei and continues "Boy not only pour but you must even drink them" and Wei visibly pales. He knows how bitter the herbal tea is and I hide my laughter.

Not the one to loose face, as uncle drinks his tea Wei looks at me "Once Lan Zhan has had a sip, I'll have the same tea cause I am sure his lips will make it sweet for me" hearing that Uncle wheezes and my ears turn red.

"Wei Ying" I admonish him kindly and he laughs as Uncle glares at the two of us. Brother enters and takes the scene in front of him "Uncle" he bows and takes a seat beside me.

"XiChen, organise a Banquet in next two days. Wangji being the Chief Cultivator, the Sects of the cultivational world has to be intimated about their partnership. As a mark of respect call Yunmeng Jiang Sect Leader first" Uncle comments and brother agrees.

I feel Wei squeeze my hand below the table and I reciprocate the same.

Uncle turns to Wei "Boy, I am too old for your shenanigans. Hope you will behave" at that Wei grins "Elder Lan, you're never too old for me. You'll grow to love me. Let's admit that fact" brother chuckles and I smile. Uncle, he glares at Wei, takes a sip of the tea and closes his eyes for meditation.
