Hey, I'm Madison Aden, looks like you found my journal from when I was a kid. Everything in there helped me become who am today, with the contribution of my best friend Jayden Morgan, who was able to let me see life from a new light.
Hear our backs...
The biggest part of our friendship was that we loved challenges and never liked to lose. They consisted of sports records, pranks, or even things regarding food. These challenges sometimes got us in trouble. When I say us, I meant James and me, as Jayden got away with everything he did. The thing was when someone declares a challenge, everyone has to do the challenge, we kept track of who wins or loses, right now, Jayden was winning with 10, and James and I were tied at 8.
One day, we were all talking before class started, and Jayden was bored. He also had to let the whole world know that he was bored. While James and I were having a discussion, Jayden sighed. He kept sighing until we acknowledged him.
"Okay, Jayden, I can hear you. What do you want?" I questioned, feeling annoyed. He responded with, " I am bored." I could care less, so I continued talking with James.
Jayden began to sigh again. This time James spoke up, " what do you want to do then, Jayden."
"Guys. I want to be heartbroken."
James and I were confused. "Why would you want to be heartbroken," I said. James and I laughed.
"You know what, Madison? I declare this a challenge since you think this is so funny."
"Are you insane?" I asked Jayden in shock.
"Nope," he replied while smirking, "ask your crush out to a walk at recess and pray they reject you."
"No," I said, "I want no part in this."
"I'm down," James said nervously. "Seriously, James!" I exclaimed watching, him chuckle.
"Exactly majority wins. We'll start at lunch with you." Jayden said to me. I was not excited at all. Jayden didn't even know my crush, so he wouldn't be able to do anything.
It was recess, Jayden and I were at the water fountain. He was trying to convince me to ask someone. I was not having it. He suggested we make a deal. I ask the next person to turn the corner. I agreed to get him off my back. Too bad I didn't realize it was a trap. Right after I shook his hand, Jay yelled down the hall. " MONTE, COME HERE!"
My throat fell to my stomach. I had a huge crush on Monte. But, how did Jayden know? As Monte approached us, I was heating up. I had no idea what I was going to say to him. Jayden took it upon himself to do the talking,
"So Monte, at the second break, you and Madison are going to hang out together, no one else okay," He smiled with a stupid grin on his face afterward.
"Only if Maddie wants to?" Monte asked in his Boston/New Jersey accent, looking at me for an answer. Me, being the frozen idiot I was, said nothing. Not comprehending what he was asking me. Jayden pinched my arm hard, and I glared at him, forgetting Monte was still standing in front of me. I looked back at Monte and nodded.
"Maddie, if you are hanging with me, you're going to have to talk to me." Was the last thing Monte said jokingly, before walking away.
I loved it when he talked. His words just flowed so nicely. He was the only one who called me Maddie. When he did, it was just nice.
I turned my head back to Jayden and began asking him how did he know I had a crush on Monte? He explained that whenever we had teams, we were always on the same team, and he catches us looking at each other in class. I punched his arm hard. He naturally winced in pain. I walked away, smiling.
It was the second break. Monte was waiting for me out of the classroom. "There's no escape to this." I thought to myself.
"Madison, come on, let's go. I don't bite." Monte teased. No doubt, I was embarrassed. We walked all over the field, and we talked about everything that was running through our minds. We reached my favourite tree in the yard. It was huge, and it was beautiful. Monte asked me if I wanted to climb up. It was against the rules to climb up the trees. I was immediately against it.
"Do you trust me?" Monte asked.
"Yes?" I said, unsure with myself.
"Now say it as you mean it, Maddie."
"Yes," I repeated in a more confident tone.
I went up the tree first. Monte followed. We were pretty high up. No one was able to see us through the thick green leaves. Monte turned his head towards me and asked, "Maddie, do you have a crush on me because I have a crush on you?" I was silent, trying to think of words to say. "Maddie?" He questioned.
Before I could answer him, the bell rang. It scared me, and I pushed Monte by accident. He lost his balance on the branch. I got a hold of his hand. I wasn't very strong, and I couldn't hold him up. We both ended up falling out of the tree when we landed, our chins collided.
It was long after the bell rang, Monte grabbed my hand, and we ran back to class.
When we arrived, Mrs. Gardner was not happy with us. The whole class was also staring at us. I hated being stared at.
"Do you two have anything to say for yourselves?" Mrs. Gardner asked us.
We didn't say anything. The class was quiet, although you can hear Jayden chuckling like an idiot. He couldn't contain himself. He was full-on laughing, and he never got shushed once. Mrs. Gardner acted like he wasn't there. I was glaring at him, beside him was James, and he looked upset, I didn't know why. Jayden grabbed his hand, and I was so confused. He signalled me to look down. Monte and I were still holding hands. I let go of his hand, and he looked at me with a hint of disappointment, but quickly returned his gaze towards our teacher, who was worried about us.
Mrs. Gardner asked Monte and me to step out of the class. We discussed what happened, and we were let off with a warning. Both of our chins were bleeding a bit when we re-entered the class. James asked to used the washroom, Mrs. Gardner sent all three of us. James wasn't too happy about that. I couldn't figure out why? He also limited his communication with me. I didn't know why my best friend was somewhat ignoring me. I didn't dare to ask what was the matter.
