I came to the hospital super early this morning.

Sophia's surgery isn't for another two hours but I promised her I'd be here.

I was here when she woke up and I will be here when she wakes up, out of surgery.

Sophia is currently on the phone with Timmy. That boy can calm her nerves.

I am in the hall... I can't believe I'm about to do this.

She walks into the supply closet. I go in after a minute.

"Hey, Evelyn?" I don't want to do this.

She looks scared. Damn, I've never seen someone that scared of me before.

"I'm not going to attack you... I'm actually really sorry about that. Jayden and I have had a complicated relationship since we were eight years old... he doesn't hate you and neither do I. I am used to women being around him and not liking me very much. Ugh, what I'm trying to say is that I was in the wrong, I let Sophia play her games and that was wrong of me. So I'm seeking your forgiveness..."

Evelyn releases a strained breath, "what games? Sophia is a quiet girl..."

I let out a soft chuckle, "Sophia is quiet but she listens. She has information and uses it to her advantage. She told me about you and how you were flirtatious with Jay right before the two of you walked into the room."

"So when she asked me if he and I were together she just wanted to see how you would react."

I nod, at least she's not dumb.

Evelyn sighs, "Jayden turned down everyone in this place and I thought I had a chance but he never told anyone that you were his girlfriend. He'd always talk about you like a best friend."

This is getting awkward, "Jayden is a socially awkward person. I won't lie. When we met, I wasn't his girlfriend officially..."

"But now you are?"

I nod. My phone starts to ring and I decline the call as I see the door start to open.

Just then the man of the hour walks into the supply closet.

Jayden eyes the both of us, "Mads? Evelyn? What are you doing?"

Evelyn speaks up, "just some girl talk."

Jayden scoffs and looks at me, "girl talk?"

I nod.

He chortles, "Madison you don't do 'girl talk.' You avoid it and you are bad at lying. Were you talking about me?"

"Jayden don't you have a surgery to get ready for?" I avoid the question.

"Yes, I came in here looking for Evelyn and you're here too so this must be good. I hope she isn't treating you poorly Evelyn."

I scoff and Evelyn shakes her head.

"I think I should be heading back to Sophia." I try to slip away but Jayden grabs my hand.

"You aren't getting away with this." He whispers and lets me go.

I walk back into Sophia's prep room and she smirks. Oh no! Children smirking is practically the worst kind of smirking. Soph's smirk gives Beth a run for her money,

"What do you know?" I ask immediately.

"I think you meant to decline and not answer that FaceTime audio." She chimes.

I pull my phone out of my pocket. I then slap a hand to my face. She heard everything from when Jayden came into the conversation.

"And you didn't think to hang up!" I exclaim.
