Range

I listened to the audio. It's all I had been listening to for the past year. I know every crook and nanny of it.

This song seemed to be a bit out of my vocal range.

Jayden's range is much much broader than mine. I'm surprised he hasn't hit a whistle tone yet.

He could sing as low as an F#2 and probably as high as an A5. It was absolutely insane.

But he also takes lessons and trains his voice, while I do everything on my own.

I was so curious as to what those lyrics said. I told myself I would stick to the instructions I was given.

How was I supposed to sing lyrics I don't even know. Although it was an 023 challenge. I had to get through it.

After a week and a half. I figured I had waited too long. Way too long. My life already was pretty much a mess.

Jayden has checked in with me multiple times throughout the year and he had been patient with me.

Although, I had no idea where I stood with Jayden. I haven't heard from James in what feels like forever. Plus Caleb was still upset with me, like it has been a year...and Diamond was just full of surprises.

It had been a year and week and a half and I figured I had stalled this challenge long enough.

I locked myself in my bathroom. My voice usually sounded great in there. I had my phone and tablet with me so I could record it.

I was going to do things the hard way until I got an idea.

I put my producing skills to the test.

I put the audio through a production software so I could just sing over it.

The audio was roughly three minutes long. When I opened the document for the lyrics the length of it was very short.

I said I wasn't going to read the lyrics. Although I peeked at the first line. Confusion struck me like lightning.

Ahh ahh ahh ahh ah ah ah ah ahhh ah ahhhh

...Was the first line. I had no idea where this was going to go but, it wasn't as bad as I thought.

As I sang, the lyrics flowed. It was soothing.

Ahh ahh ahh ahh ah ah ah ah ahhh ah ahhhh

...

You see me shining from a new light up above

You make me feel some way that I can't get rid of

Five years, eleven months, and seven days, since I fell for you

We've been through it all but this chance was a dream come true

And I blew it... and I blew it

...

I'm not asking for you to forgive me

But I'm asking for you to hear me now

...

Let me take you back to when we were younger

We were at the tree and you were a hunter

You said I was a Phoenix flying high in the sky

You pulled me from the tree and looked in my eye

You said I wouldn't die cause firebirds always rise

...

You see me shining from a new light up above

You make me feel some way that I can't get rid of

Five years, eleven months, and seven days, since I fell for you

We've been through it all but this chance was a dream come true

And I blew it... and I blew it...

I loved it. I didn't want to, but Jay has a way with his words. That's what made him an excellent writer.

It was a short song but it was an impactful one in our situation.

I sent the audio file back to Jayden and he responded in about five minutes.

He said it was perfect and it was exactly how he envisioned the song to sound like.

He asked me if we were okay.

I believed we were. Although I told Jayden that we should just be friends.

He said that he understood. Though, I knew he didn't want to push his luck.

I apologized on Caleb's behalf. He was totally out of line.

I asked Jayden why he took so long to contact me back then. Turns out it didn't have anything to do with Caleb's poor threats.

He was up, working all night on the song and slept in that day.

Jayden would never let anyone stop him from communicating with me. Well... if I really thought about it, I could probably stop him from contacting me.

I hoped we were going to be okay.

I certainly do write every song/poem in this book
