The Calm

August 19, 2008

This is how we met.

I was having a rough horrible day. I got into a fight with my cousin. This was no verbal fight. It was harsh and painful as he always got physical with me, he is much stronger than me and he is really the only one I truly feared. I was 8 years old there's nothing much I could do when he was 11.

I needed to escape my house.

I went to the park, alone. There was a boy there. He was alone too. I didn't want to bother him. I was kind-of shy.

He looked at me and smiled. I wasn't in the mood for smiling. I guess he noticed that too. I caught myself studying him. I am quite the observer, "he has really pretty blue eyes." I thought to myself.

I was going to leave, but he stopped me to introduce himself, and we ended up talking for a long time. We sat on the hill and got to know each other. The day was getting better from its poor starting.

His name was one I would never want to forget. Jayden William Morgan. We are the same age. He's smart and kind, with blue eyes, and dark hair. We got along very well.

It was his birthday, "why would he be alone on his birthday?" I said, not realizing I thought out loud. He answered that his mom threw him a surprise party. He hates surprises and parties. And he needed to get away for a bit. He doesn't like being the main center of attention most of the time.

Jayden asked me why I was at the park alone. I had forgotten all the hurt I was feeling till then. I told him about my cousin.

After a bit, we went to his house. I met his mom, Elizabeth. I didn't see his dad, and I also did not ask any questions about it. Elizabeth told me I can call her Beth. She was nice, but she didn't really look like Jayden, other than their nose and smile, I didn't notice another physical similarity.

Jayden and I spent the rest of the day watching movies in his basement till I decided to go home. He didn't live far from me too.

That day was the first and last I saw of him.

Or so I thought.
