Above, y/n was engulfed in water. He had jumped in after Ahsoka, but with his heavy coat dragging him down and the claustrophobic lack of space, he quickly changed his mind about chasing after her.
He fought to swim back up, but his hands had no space to move. Determinedly, y/n kicked furiously with his feet. When he continued to sink, he used the Force to propel himself to the surface.
His head broke the surface just as his lungs began to protest, and he breathlessly pulled himself out of the pit.
He looked around, scowling and dripping wet. A cold draught passed into the tunnel, making him shiver.
Then came the sharp, brittle crack of ice. He froze. That couldn't be right; he had melted through the sheet with his lightsaber only a minute ago. It shouldn't have been cold enough for the water to refreeze so quickly.
And yet, the sound echoed again, clear and deliberate, as if the ice itself were drawing breath.
"AHSOKA!" He suddenly yelled, remembering his friend still in the pit, possibly drowning or dying from the cold.
y/n rushed over to the hole, gazing fearfully down at the patch of ice.
A dark form appeared from underneath the frozen water. The ice was remarkably unblemished, allowing them to see each other with almost perfect clarity. He caught sight of large bubbles emerging from Ahsoka's mouth and popping against the surface of the ice.
Ahsoka beat her fists against the now solid substance, now several metres thick.
Her lungs fought for air. Her vision swam with black dots that kept spinning around and around, as if taunting her. Her arms and legs were numb from kicking upwards whilst being continuously dragged down by her waterlogged coat. Her head thumped a loud staccato rhythm, pain filling her deoxygenated brain.
y/n didn't know if what he was going to do next was possible. Nevertheless, he had to try. He couldn't use his lightsaber; else the ice would turn instantly into water at a million degrees and burn her.
He extended a hand and placed it on top of the ice. Closing his eyes, y/n focused on the Force.
"Please work, please work, please work," he mumbled desperately under his breath. His heart was racing, his pulse pounding in his ears.
He couldn't let a youngling die here, especially if that youngling was his closest friend.
