"We are already late." Thor whispered to me as we hid on the balcony that overlooked the throne room. We were sat against the railing of the balcony, trying to conceal ourselves from our father. He was sat on his throne a few metres below us with our mother nearby.
"Come on, he will be here in a moment. We just have to make sure that Father doesn't actually murder him. Besides, don't you like to make an entrance?" I whispered back as we impatiently waited for Loki to be brought in and tried for his crimes. We had brought him back to Asgard, after he failed in trying to rule the humans.
We were supposed to be helping Asgard's army on Vanaheim, as since we fought with Jotunheim, and Loki invaded Midgard, the other realms have questioned Asgard's strength and are attempting to overthrow Odin. Also, the fact that my arranged marriage was called off enraged the King of Vanaheim, prompting war within the Nine Realms. We had already travelled to the more powerful forces, such of those on Müspelheim and Alfheim, but Vanaheim was yet to be secured. That was what was happening today, but I had convinced Thor that we should delay our entrance in order to watch Loki's trial.
"I don't need to be late in order to make an entrance." He arrogantly whispered as he got to his knees and looked over the balcony sneakily to see what the hold-up was. He then shifted back down next to me. "Where the hell is he?" He grunted.
The soft clink of chains began to echo in the distance. "The show is about to begin." I muttered under my breath as I peeked my eyes over the rails to watch my raven-haired brother slumping his body towards our father, wrapped in chains. I had refracted the light away from the balcony in hopes that the lack of light will help conceal us.
Several guards were following him as his chains clanked together. His face revealed no emotion. He was difficult to read before but now I couldn't tell if he was remorseful or even proud of what he had done. He had reached the front of the hall where Mother was stood a few feet from him.
"Loki..." She sighed as her eyes met with her disgraced son.
"Hello, Mother. Have I made you proud?" He muttered sarcastically to her.
"Please, don't make this worse." She whispered to him in attempt to get him to behave, which as far as I could tell, was not likely.
"Define 'worse'." He sneered.
"Enough!" Father boomed as his voice bounced off the high ceilings. "I will speak with the prisoner alone." He commanded and mother gave Loki one last look before leaving.
Loki walked forward a few paces before clashing his feet together theatrically, allowing his chains to clink loudly. He sighed deeply before letting out that familiar wicked cackle. "I really don't see what all the fuss is about."
"Do you not truly feel the gravity of your crimes? Wherever you go, there is war, ruin, and death." He spoke with clarity as he looked down on Loki, disgusted.
"I went down to Midgard to rule the people of Earth as a benevolent god. Just like you." Loki sneered as he eyed father with equal disgust.
If I know one thing about Loki it's that he would not have been benevolent. You cannot be all-good and remain selfish and that infatuated with power. I also know that Father was not and is not benevolent. Loki was desperately grasping for any possible insult or snarky comment he could throw at father.
"We are not gods. We are born, we live, we die. Just as humans do." Odin responded, clearly trying to ignore the 'benevolent' comment. They have that in common, at least, they both would never admit that they aren't capable of being all-good.
