Now that Tony was on board, we actually had a shot of this, and if we wanted to succeed, we would need more than six people.
The remainder of the guardians had been contacted and had arrived earlier this morning, with Rhodey landing on the porch a few moments after. Nat was about to leave to try and get Clint on board while I was being forced into a family reunion.
During the five years since Thanos, I hadn't heard a word from or about my brother, not that it bothered me. He had completely broken my trust, forfeiting our once treasured relationship on who got to be the victor.
In hindsight, I may have reacted a little harshly, but if he had been willing to provide a well-versed apology, I may have accepted. Instead, I didn't hear a single word, and was reluctant to hear any now.
I was being stalked by a semi-red-head to make sure I actually boarded the ship that would lead me into an extremely awkward reunion. If she wasn't on my tail, I would have bolted by now, running from my problems as I seem to have a habit of doing.
I reluctantly heaved myself up the slope of the Milano and slumped down into the most isolated chair with an exaggerated huff.
"Is it too late for me to be an only child?" I sighed, pouting like a child as Nat placed a hand on her hip, rolling her eyes. I reluctantly strapped myself in. "I really don't think it's a good idea to put me under the same roof as him. I think it's better if I stayed here and helped Nebula build the quantum thing."
"You know nothing about quantum physics which is why that would be a terrible idea." She tutted.
"You are lucky that I am gracing you with my ideas at all." I scoffed with a frown like a toddler who hadn't been given what they wanted, leaving the parents bracing for a tantrum. I wish I could throw all my toys out of the pram, but I doubt Nat would give me any sympathy for my moaning and moping.
"Yes, we are so, so lucky. Now, please go and fetch your brother without blowing up the whole planet, or something." She sighed, backing away slowly, hoping not to frighten the flight-risk away as Bruce and Rocket climbed the slope behind her.
"I'll try and contain the damage to one continent. Good luck with Clint." I called after her, sighing into the scuffed leather, feeling sorry for myself.
"I'm sure he will be happy to see you..." Bruce implored, sounding unconvinced of his own words as he sat between two chairs, not fitting into a single one.
"Oh, are you? Well, that fixes everything." I scoffed, kicking my feet up on the arms of the chair, a sight my mother would frown upon.
"This is going to be a disaster. I can't wait." Rocket cackled wickedly as he started up the engines and we started to hover higher and higher above the compound.
"I can." I mutter to myself as I close my eyes and pray that I wake up soon from the nightmare that has been the last five years.
The flight was short. We had zoomed over the ocean and had entered the airspace above Northern Europe, lowering down towards Norway, where I had spent nearly two years of isolated bliss.
We landed in a tiny airport near a few fishing villages, one I knew to be the one in which I shared a home with Steve. If Thor hadn't picked that exact town to settle, then he certainly had similar preferences.
We hired a taxi that would drive us into town, and I rolled my eyes when I heard Rocket give the fumbling man the address, knowing Thor had chosen to live a few streets away from my own home, cursing our silly shared intuition. Hating him has made me wish we were less similar.
Bruce and Rocket were confined to the back of the truck as the driver eyed them suspiciously before I slid in the passenger seat, and we drove towards the village I missed sorely.
