TIME JUMP: 3 MONTHS AFTER THE BATTLE OF HOGWARTS
JAYNE'S POV
The Battle Of Hogwarts ended and life moved on. We all had to start living our lives without the people we lost in them. Things were hard. I caught Draco trying to get his dark mark off a few times. Once I walked in on him crying and trying to burn it off. I ran over and held him in my arms while he cried. He kept telling me he hated himself and that he's a terrible person. It was the hardest thing to see. Everyday seemed to be filled with mourning. It seemed that I attended a funeral everyday. The hardest ones that I went to were Snapes, Theos, Fred, Uncle Moony and Tonks. Each one was hard in it's own way. At Snape's, Harry and I made sure the whole school came. We both spoke and I told everyone who Snape really was. There wasn't a dry eye there. Then there was Theo's. His parents didn't come. They believed he was a disappointment. I wish they knew how wrong they were. Draco didn't want to come to Theo's funeral. He felt guilty. He stood in the back so nobody could see him. Once everyone left, I couldn't find him at the reception. I went back to Theo's grave to find him on his knees sobbing. He was apologizing to Theo and begging for forgiveness. Fred's funeral was the same thing. Draco felt guilty for all these deaths. I know everytime he looks at his arm, it hurts him. Then there was Uncle Moony's funeral and Tonks funeral. I went to both. I sat with Teddy on my lap and held him. He was sad. The hardest thing I ever had to do was look that little 3 year old in the eyes and tell him mommy and daddy aren't coming home. I will make sure he knows what his parents did. What they sacrificed and how they died heroes. I've been living at Uncle Moony and Tonks house with Draco and Teddy. After the battle, I didn't know where to go. I knew I would be with Draco but I didn't know what to do. I had to take care of Teddy. That's all I wanted to do. So I did.
"Jayne, you're 18." Draco said. "So?" I asked. "So you're too young to take care of a kid." he said. "No, I'm not." I said. He scoffed. "Is this about me being too young to take care of a kid or you not wanting him around?" I asked. He stopped. "I know how much Teddy means to you." he said. "Good." I said. "Does Harry know?" he asked. "It's not up to him." I said. "Just talk to him about it." he said. "Well, he's coming over a little bit so I will." I said. "Good." he said. "I have to get Teddy lunch, do you want anything?" I asked. He nodded. "I'll make sandwiches." I said. A little while later, I heard the doorbell ring. I went to the door and opened it. I was surprised when I saw a lady standing with Harry. "Jayne!" Harry said. He hugged me and I hugged him. "Who's this?" I asked. "Oh, sorry. This is Andromeda Tonks. Teddy's grandmother" he said. I shook her hand. "Nice to meet you dear." she said. "Nice to meet you too." I said. "I thought this was the perfect opportunity for her to meet Teddy." he said as they walked in. "Um, yeah, of course. He's eating lunch in the kitchen with Draco. I'll go get him." I said. I walked in and saw Teddy with his mouth full of sandwich. He smiled at me. "What's up?" Draco said. "Harry brought his grandma" I whispered. Draco looked puzzled. He walked out and I heard him talking to Harry. "Hey little wolf, your grandma's here. You want to meet her?" I asked. He looked a little scared. I picked him up and rested him on my hip. "It's alright. She is very kind." I said. "Ok" he said hesitantly. I walked in and she walked over. "Teddy, this is your grandma." I said. She reached out her arms and he shied away. "Hey, it's alright buddy" I said. He nodded and she took him. Draco wrapped his arm around my waist. "Jayne, can I talk to you?" Harry asked. I nodded. He led me into the kitchen and I followed. He handed me an envelope. "This is Uncle Moony's will," he said. I opened it up and read. "He left me the house?" I asked. He nodded. "Harry, I was thinking about it and... I want to take care of Teddy." I said. Harry's face dropped. "Jayne I- Um, that's what we're here to talk to you about," he said. "What?" I asked. "Uncle Moony and Tonks want his grandmother to take care of him." he said. My heart sank. I shook my head. "No, she doesn't even know him." I said. Harry handed me a letter. "It's from Uncle Moony," he said.
Dear Jayne,
If you are reading this, it means I have perished in the final battle. I truly hoped we could all be a proper family once it all ended, but fate had other plans. In my will, you will learn I left you our home. I hope you and Draco will choose to live your life there. There are bedrooms for when you have children and become the wonderful parents I know you will be. As for Teddy, I know you Jayne. I know you will want to take care of him and I know you would do a wonderful job. But Tonks and I decided that he should be with his Grandmother. You are young and I want you to experience life before you settle down. I hope you can understand. I do hope you will be a part of Teddy's life. I want him to know his family. I love you Jayne and I am always with you. The Marauders have been reunited and are wreaking havoc someplace better.
I love you always.Love Your Uncle Moony
Tears hit the page. "When?" I asked. "Jayne-" Harry started. "When?" I repeated sharply. "Next week," he said. "Is that it?" I asked. "Yes but-" he started. "Go. I don't want to see you." I said. "Come on Jayne," Draco said. I walked out and Teddy and Andromeda were sitting on the floor playing. "It was lovely to meet you but unfortunately it's time for his nap. I'll see you next week." I said. She looked up and nodded. Harry and her disappeared out the door. I walked over to Teddy and picked him. "Come on little wolf, time to sleep" I said. I took him to his room and laid him down on the bed. I gave him his purple stuffed wolf. Draco got it for him. Purple to represent Tonks hair and the wolf to represent Uncle Moony. "Can you sing to me?" he asked. I moved the hair from his face. "Of course." I said. I sang him the same song I sang to Theo when we were in the cellar. He drifted off to sleep and I watched him. Then I walked out of Draco sitting on the couch reading. I sat down next to him and buried my head in his chest. "She's taking him away." I said. He rubbed my back. "I know." he said "How am I gonna tell him?" I asked. "I'll be there the whole time." he said I nodded. After dinner that night, I told him. "Teddy, come here." I said. Draco sat across from us and Teddy sat on my lap. "So your mom and dad cared about you a lot, you know that right?" I asked. He nodded. "They wanted to make sure you would be happy and safe if anything ever happened to them. And well, something did. They decided it would be best if you live with your grandmother, you know the nice woman you met." I said. He shook his head and hugged me. "No! I wanna stay with you and Uncle Draco" he said. I looked at him and wiped my tears. "It'll be ok. I'll visit every week and you can come see me whenever you want and you can write me letters." I said. He started bawling. "No! I'm not going." he said. I held him while he cried and I sang to him. Eventually he calmed down. I did this every night before bed. Then I had to help him pack. He would fight me on it everyday and I bribed him with ice cream. Then the day came. Sunday arrived and the doorbell rang. Draco carried his stuff downstairs. Teddy sat on the couch with me crying in my arms. I carried him as I walked over. I wiped my tears and I opened the door. Andromeda stood there smiling. "Hello dear." she said. "Hi," I said. "Hello Teddy" she said. He wouldn't look at her. He just clung to me. "He's just a little upset." I said. She nodded. Draco apparated his things over to her house then came back inside. Teddy was crying and holding me. "Hey, little wolf. It's ok. You gotta be brave like your mom and dad." I said. He hugged me tighter. "Can you do that?" I asked. He stepped back and took a big breath. "I'm brave like mom and dad" he said his lip was quivering. I nodded. "Good job" I said. I hugged him and kissed him once more. "I'll visit next week ok." I said. "Ok. I love you Auntie Jayne" he said. I nodded. "I love you too little wolf. Draco picked him up. "I'll miss you buddy" he said. Teddy hugged him. "Make sure Auntie Jayne isn't sad ok?" he said. Draco nodded. I handed Andromeda a folder full of parchment. "What's this?" she asked. "Lists of food he likes and doesn't, things he's scared of, what to do if he has a nightmare, books he likes, things he likes to do, and stuff like that. There's also some information on Lycanthropy. Harry and I don't know if he has it yet. He may show signs when he's older. Also call him little wolf. It reminds him of his dad. You can bring him here anytime" I said. She nodded and gave me a hug. "I'll take good care of him." she said. "Tell him stories about his mum. I only know stories about Uncle Moony. Tell him about his mum" I said. She nodded. Then she took Teddy's hand and they disappeared. Draco walked in and I cried in his arms. "What if he needs me?" I say. "Then we'll be there. Day or night. Rain or shine. We'll be there for him" he said. I nodded.
