Taylor looks down at her phone in disbelief, she hadn't really heard from Karlie since before shit hit the fan in 2016. Karlie had seemingly turned her back on her as the world did, and that had hurt more than she'd been willing to admit back then. But here she was, a year and a half later, letting her know she was coming to Taylor's tour and was hoping they could catch up backstage. She isn't quite sure what to say, isn't even completely sure how she's supposed to be feeling about Karlie's sudden return. So she puts her phone down for a little while, deciding to take a moment before responding. Instead, she begins cooking dinner. It's been a while since she's stayed in her Nashville apartment and her boyfriend was due to be home within the hour, something she's very excited about, it's been almost two weeks since their schedules had allowed them to be together. Taylor still has random moments of humility about the whole thing, wondering what on earth she'd done right to end up with him, to have him stay for so long, even through everything.

40 minutes later, Taylor hears her front door click open and ask she looks up from dinner, Joe comes into her view. Her face splits into a smile as he comes towards her, her arms reaching out for him. He winds his arms around her waist, capturing her lips in a sweet kiss and almost instantly, she softens into it, her arms wrapping around his neck. As the couple part, they're both smiling

"Hi" She whispers, grinning at him, her hands running through his hair

"Hello" He murmurs, pressing another kiss to her lips before releasing her from his arms to go back to their dinner. She feels his arms wind around her waist, his head resting on her shoulder as she continues making dinner. They both just mindlessly talk about their days, enjoying the closeness after having being separated for a while. She occasionally feels him press kisses to her cheek and in response, she giggles softly, truly loving having him back, all to herself.

Their night continues like that, the general mundaneness of it all brought Taylor to a peaceful bliss, in which she had completely forgotten about the message from Karlie. That is, until she was lying in bed, nestled into Joe's chest, his arms firmly around her. Her mind swirls with possible responses she could give her. Taylor did consider, for a moment, just saying no. That she didn't want to see someone who once swore she was her sister, just to completely ghost her after 2016. But she knows she can't do that, and deep down, in a dark part of her soul, Taylor misses Karlie, misses the friendship they shared, and even considers that maybe there's a chance for reparations. She just isn't ready to fully cut herself off from that possibility, which could very well be damaging on its own. A sigh escapes her mouth and despite having thought that Joe was already asleep, she feels his arms tighten around her body, his lips finding their way to her head in the dark.

"You okay?" He murmurs, sounding completely exhausted, which is understandable considering how far he'd flown for her today. She just buries her head in his chest for a moment before sighing again, delicately detangling herself from him

"I just need to take care of something quickly, I'll be right back." She kisses his forehead, and his hand finds hers, squeezing it gently.

"Are you leaving the apartment?" He asks, sounding more awake than he had a moment ago

"No, I just need to message someone, don't worry about it. Just go to sleep babe." His hand squeezes hers once more before he lets go, she watches him sit up and flick the light on.

"I'll be here when you get back." He pulls a book off the nightstand

"You don't have to, I can tell you're exhausted. It's okay, honestly." He shrugs,

"Are you going to want a hug when you're done?" Taylor just stays silent at that, not really knowing the answer. Joe ignores her silence,

"Well, I won't be able to sleep until you're back here with me. So it's okay, do what you need to do, I'll be here." She watches him focus on his book, smiling at him before walking closer to him, taking his head in her hands and leaving a lingering kiss on his lips. She watches his blue eyes sparkle as they pull back
