Tried To Forget It But We Just Couldn't

Taylor wakes to sunlight filtering through the cracks in her blinds, she sighs, slowly becoming more aware of her surroundings. She feels an arm wrapped around her waist which confuses her, she opens her eyes further before realising that there is a man in her bed. Joe. Her heart rate increases when she realises exactly what had happened the night before. Clearly they'd both gotten way too drunk and she'd given in to her desires. This was a mistake, she knows this couldn't have meant anything to him. She has to admit to herself that waking up beside him feels so nice, she feels comforted by his arm wrapped around her but she forces herself not to think like that. You're just friends, she reminds herself. She can't believe she slept with him. Taylor decides she needs to get out of his hold before he wakes up so they can avoid the inevitable awkwardness that would arise from him waking up holding her. She gently lifts his arm off her waist and rolls out of bed, throwing on a shirt and some shorts and quickly making her way downstairs to grab some breakfast.

About half an hour later Taylor sees Joe appear in her living room fully clothed. He makes eye contact with her, scratching the back of his head.

"Um hi." He says awkwardly, trying to offer a small smile.

"Hi..." She says quietly, averting her eyes. A long silence follows, neither of them really knowing what to say. Taylor fiddles with her own fingers for a moment before Joe chooses to break the awful silence. Something neither of them are used to with each other.

"I'm sorry. Last night shouldn't have happened...let's just forget about it. I think we were both just drunk...right?" Joe's eyes had found hers again while he was talking. Taylor's heart sinks a little, her assumptions had been confirmed. He obviously thought it was a mistake, she should too but there was something tugging at her heart that seemed to be longing for them to be more than friends.

"Uh right. Yeah, sorry. We can forget it" Joe just nods at her. This tension is awful, it isn't something either of them had ever experienced together before. They'd always just been super comfortable hanging out with each other as friends but now they'd accidentally crossed a line she isn't sure they can come back from. She's pretty sure she's just lost another friend who was incredibly important to her.

"Well...I should get going. Um, see you around." Taylor was about to offer him breakfast but bites her tongue at the last second, deciding not to make things even weirder.

"Yeah. See you." She says softly before Joe walks out of her front door. Taylor slumps down on the couch feeling sorry for herself. There goes another friend, all because she couldn't control herself. Now she'd scared him off. She hopes to see him again and be able to move past this, but she knows that there's a chance she won't.

It had been two weeks and Taylor hadn't seen Joe since it had happened. They'd texted back and forth a few times, obviously skirting around the issue, but anytime the idea to hang out came up one of them always had an excuse. Taylor wasn't quite ready to see Joe yet, knowing she had feelings for him that she was certain he didn't return. She also assumed Joe just didn't want to see her again, that he was embarrassed by her or something. Unfortunately tonight they'd both be at a party with some mutual friends so she was pretty sure she'd be seeing him again.

As Taylor runs around getting ready for the party, she can feel her nerves kicking in more. She really has no idea what to say to him if she sees him, but there's a small hint of excitement. She's missed hanging out with him, she's still holding out a small bit of hope that once they get together again the awkwardness will be washed away and they can go back to being friends. She quickly smooths down her dress before running out the door and into the backseat of her car.
