Going For A Walk

Joe and Taylor are having a lazy Sunday morning on the couch. Taylor is nestled in Joe's arms, he smiles down at her - paying more attention to her than what's playing on TV.

"I can feel you watching me." She mumbles but he can hear the smile in her voice.

"I can't help it love, you're so easy to look at!" He kisses the top of her head and smiles, tightening his arms around her as they continue watching law and order. He loves getting to do this with her, just having her in his arms as they relax - it's not often they both get a day off like this.

Once the episode comes to an end, Taylor grabs the remote and flicks the TV off.

"Wanna go for a walk?" She asks, looking up at him with the cutest grin. He leans down, pressing a lingering kiss to her lips before pulling back and nodding.

"Sure." He murmurs, laughs as he sees her cheeks redden slightly. He find himself getting lost in her blue eyes before she breaks the moment by standing up to get changed. Joe lays back against the couch, absentmindedly scrolling through his phone.

Taylor comes back down 10 minutes later, gently running running her fingers through his hair. He stares up at the huge grin on her face, feeling like he's falling further in love with her just in this moment.

"Come on, let's get going. I know a really nice walk down in Malibu." She suggests, he nods happily - agreeing with whatever she says considering he doesn't know much about America just yet. He jumps up quickly, lazily swinging his arm around her shoulders.

"Sounds lovely, m'lady." She giggles and nudges him with her head as they make their way down to the car, quickly sliding into the backseat and making their way to wherever Taylor is taking him. He's still getting used to America - doesn't quite know his way around well enough yet. It probably doesn't help that he's getting to know Nashville, New York and LA  all at the same time but it sure does make things exciting. He'd lived in London his whole life so it's been an adjustment for him, but he knows he'll do anything for her. Because he loves her, loves being with her. He finds himself smiling down at Taylor, pressing yet another kiss to the side of her head. It just seems to be one of those days where they can't quite get enough of each other.

Once the pair have made it to Malibu, Taylor grabs Joe's hands, leading him into some bushy area.

"It's about an hour to the other side, is that okay?" Joe looks over to her and nods.

"Of course." He says softly, squeezing her hand. She smiles at him and the two begin walking silently hand in hand. Taylor's security guard follows behind them from a distance, close enough to keep an eye out but far enough away that he couldn't hear their conversation. Taylor apologises relentlessly about the fact that they can't really ever be alone outside the house, but he assures her every time it's not the end of the world.

"When did you find this walk?" He asks her.

"Uhh, a few years ago maybe? I wanted to find somewhere that was pretty but where I wouldn't be swarmed by the paps. This ticked all the boxes I guess, although no guarantees when we reach the other side." She sighs softly, but he picks up on it. He knows she loves what she does, that she's grateful for where life has taken her - but he also knows she hates the parts of it where she can't just live a normal life. He squeezes her hand softly and she smiles at him - he lives for that smile. They continue along their way, Joe's enjoying the walk so far. She's right, it is really pretty. And he loves it when they get to spend time together, just the two of them. With the way their lives are - and the jobs they both have, there always seems to be far too many times when they're forced to be apart on different continents. So, it's always nice to just spend some time with her.

The couple chatter happily for the majority of the walk, not really talking about much but enjoying themselves nonetheless. Joe loves being able to make Taylor smile and laugh, loves that it's so easy with her. As they reach the end of the enclosed trail, Taylor stops. The smile has fallen from her face and she's gripping his arm tightly. He looks back at her, perplexed and slightly worries by the change in her demeanour. But as he looks up ahead he can see the paps. Damn it, surely they have something better to be doing on a Sunday afternoon than harassing two people who are just taking a walk. Taylor begins moving forward again, he can feel her mood has completely diminished and he hates that. Her hand is still firmly on his arm, as though she's scared he'll let go. Luckily, there's only a few of them - it's not a complete swarm so they're able to just walk past quickly, keeping their heads down. He feels Taylor tense up as the camera clicks and flashes begin, he hates that they've done this to her again. As the comments begin getting thrown at them, Joe quickly grabs her hand again, holding it firmly in his own.

"The car's just over there." She murmurs softly to him. He nods, despite knowing full well she isn't looking at him.

They make it to the car, sliding into the backseat. Taylor begins fiddling with the necklace he had given her for her birthday. He watches as she just stares out the window, clearly lost in her thoughts. He sits there quietly, not pushing her to say anything - wanting to let her process her emotions, knowing he'll be able to hold her when they get home. Neither of them say a word for the entire drive home.

Once they make it inside, Taylor finally says something to him.

"I'm sorry." She bites her lip, her eyes meeting his. Joe gets closer to her, placing his hands on her hips.

"You don't have anything to apologise for." He says firmly, not wanting her to beat herself up for what had happened.

"I shouldn't have suggested a walk, that was dumb. I was just hoping we'd be safer on a Sunday, I was praying they wouldn't be there but they were - they always are. I should've expected it." She sighs, avoiding his eyes.

"Taylor, I loved going for that walk. So what if a couple of idiots got some pictures? It's not the end of the world, honestly. We can't let that ruin the nice time we had. I know it sucks but it's just a part of who we are and we can live our lives in spite of it." Taylor throws her arms around his neck, pressing her body against his, resting her head on his shoulder. Joe tightens his arms around her waist, enjoying the closeness with her - breathing her in and burying his head in her hair.

"Thank you." She whispers, causing him to smile.

"Anytime." The two of them keep their arms around the other for a while longer before Taylor leans back, kissing him softly on the lips. Joe reciprocates, happily deepening their kiss and walking them forwards until her back presses up against a wall. Joe tangles his hands up in Taylor's hair, kissing her deeply - letting her know that he's still here, that no one will ever change that. They both break apart, breathing deeply and staring into the others eyes.

"I love you." She says softly to him, his heart warms at her words and he grins.

"I love you too, so much." She smiles at him, still breathing heavily. Her fears and anxieties seemingly washed away by his words. Joe knows that she still worries about these things, that they pop up occasionally, particularly when the two had been recently bombarded. He also knows that he'll do anything within in his power to make her feel better, to remind her that he isn't going to be scared off. That he thinks she's beautiful and that he still loves her more than anything else in the whole world.
