Taylor rubs her eyes before looking blearily around the room. She'd been on Jimmy Kimmel the night before and had ended up staying up fairly late afterwards. She sits up, stretching her arms out and looking over at her boyfriend who's sleeping peacefully beside her. A small smile finds its way onto her lips before she quietly makes her way out of bed and downstairs into their kitchen. Once coffee has been acquired, Taylor turns on her phone to deal with any emails that had come through during the night. Unfortunately for Taylor, she'd received a text from Tree, her publicist, asking her to call her. Taylor sighs, putting her coffee down. It's never good to get a message like that unexpectedly from her publicist. Taylor calls her quickly, wanting to get this over with.

"Hi Taylor! Sorry to have messaged you so early in the morning." Tree's voice comes through the phone

"No worries, what's happened?" Taylor hears Tree sigh from the other end of the line.

"Look, there's some pretty serious allegations being spread right now in correlation to your interview last night. In fact it's really bad. Is Joe with you right now?" Taylor feels a huge amount of fear and dread seep into her body.

"No...he's asleep. Tree what's going on?" She hears Tree suck in another deep breath and Taylor already knows her next words are going to shatter her excitement and happiness.

"Well, apparently last night you made a hand gesture very similar to that of a domestic violence distress signal. A thread was posted on Twitter and people are making TikTok videos expressing concern for you that you're being abused." Taylor feels her mouth drop open, holy shit, she can't come up with anything to say, her mind is spinning. Almost immediately she begins overthinking every move she makes, knowing how much more careful she's going to have to be in public with literally everything. Tree's voice breaks her line of thought,

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have to ask..." Taylor cuts her off,

"No! God no, I'm perfectly fine. No one is hurting me, I promise. He's the best thing that's ever happened to me, he would never!" Taylor's freaking out, she has no idea what to do next. This was going to damage Joe's reputation, she has to fix this.

"I thought so. Okay, so what we need to do now is damage control. We need to stop this from spreading too far so I'm suggesting that we sell a story to People magazine pretty much just saying that you and Joe are super happy together, that he's your rock or something to strongly suggest that these rumours are completely false while we get in touch with Jimmy's team to edit the hand gesture out or something. And, well, if that doesn't work, we're going to have to start liking some tweets or something to further debunk the rumours...hopefully that works, it should do, but if it doesn't, we'll probably need to discuss where to go from there and if you want to make a statement." Taylor sighs, placing her head in her hands.

"Okay. Do all of that and I'm praying it works. Fuck, how could something I wasn't even aware I was doing turn into this?" She hears Tree sigh again,

"I have no idea, you know people like to over-analyse things and I think your fans are just concerned for you." Taylor sighs, her mind is reeling, trying to figure out how to tell Joe what the world is saying about him...because of her. She was so afraid of things like this happening which is why she'd kept their relationship hidden for so long.

"I know. It's just so unfair to him, he's such a good person, he doesn't deserve accusations like this."

"Of course he doesn't. No innocent person deserves accusations like these but we'll put a stop to them. This will blow over in the end, you know that."

"I know. Thanks Tree, can we talk more later?"

"Sure, I'm so so sorry Taylor." The call ends and Taylor drops her phone on the counter. She's debating whether or not she should wake Joe up to tell him or let him sleep in blissful ignorance for a little longer. Deciding she wanted to be the one to tell him, rather than him getting a call from his publicist, she walks up the stairs, leaving her coffee forgotten in the kitchen.

When she reaches their room, she notices that Joe is already awake and is sitting up, rubbing his eyes. He notices her and smiles

"You haven't turned on your phone yet, have you?" His brow furrows a little at her words

"Uh no...I was just about to though, why?" His words are laced with confusion and Taylor sits down next to him on the bed.

"I need to tell you something." She says softly, honestly terrified about the news she's having to reveal to him. Joe grabs her hands, squeezing them softly and looking at her, encouraging her to continue.

"Um, I have a feeling your publicist either has, or will be getting in contact with you soon...I just spoke to mine..." She trails off, biting her lip slightly, trying to decide the best way to tell him.

"There's, uh, some rumours and allegations being thrown around online this morning coming from my interview last night. Um..." Taylor swallows, trying to hold back tears that were threatening to appear. She feels Joe tighten his grip on her hands, rubbing them with his thumb in an attempt to soothe her. Little does he know...

"They're saying you abuse me" She blurts out, unable to stop herself or properly explain why. She feels his thumbs stop moving,

"What?" She can see the confusion and hurt written all over his face

"Apparently I made some gesture while I was talking, like I always do, but this one was similar to some domestic violence signal or something that I had no idea about and so now people are freaking out that you're hurting me or something and I'm so so so sorry. I didn't even...I don't know...I...fuck, I'm sorry." She feels his hands release hers before being pulled into his embrace.

"It's not your fault love, it's just a misunderstanding. We know I don't hurt you, the people who matter to us know that too, so really it's okay, we're okay." His voice is soft and soothing but Taylor still feels awful about it

"This shouldn't be happening, it's going to fuck up your reputation and it's all happening because of me. Because I wasn't careful enough and now I've gone and made everyone concerned for my wellbeing...I'm so so sorry, this is the last thing I'd ever want, I never want to hurt you." She winds her arms around his body, holding him close.

"You didn't do anything, we know people take things too far sometimes. I promise, I'm okay, it's going to blow over. None of this is your fault, how could you prevent something you weren't even aware of? It's all okay, I bet Tree's already onto this one." Taylor nods,

"She is, but-" Joe cuts her off

"No buts! It's going to blow over, I'm okay, we're okay. I promise." She's so lucky to have Joe, he's the kindest man she's ever known and she knows they're both so in love with each other. How on earth could the world think he'd ever lay a hand on her? Taylor pulls back from their embrace for a moment to look at him, she sees a few stray tears on his face so she reaches up to wipe them away.

"You're allowed to be angry and upset you know? It's fucked up what they're saying." Joe presses a kiss to her forehead,

"I know, and I am, don't get me wrong. I also know that it's not true, because I would never ever hurt you. So despite what people might be shouting on social media, it will blow over because it's completely false." Taylor feels a small smile tug on her lips at her boyfriends attitude towards this whole thing

"God I wish I could think more like you" She says softly

"Honestly it does still hurt, but we're okay. We love each other and that's all that matters." His words encourage Taylor to lean up and kiss him gently,

"I love you so much and I promise, I'll do anything within my power to completely debunk all of these rumours. Literally anything." She winds her arms around his neck, pulling him close in a subconscious attempt to protect him from the outside world.

"I love you too, I know you will, but don't stress yourself too much. I know you want to protect me, but I want to protect your mental health so try not to focus on it too much and let our publicists do their jobs okay?" Joe's arms tighten around her. They're holding each other as close as they can, each wanting to protect the other while simultaneously comforting the other.

"Okay, I'll try my best. But if this gets out of hand, I'll step in. I promise." She feels him nod against her as they continue holding each other close. They'll get through this together, she knows they will. Taylor will do anything to protect him and their life together because the love they share is so important to her. He is so important to her.
