In Sickness

Taylor could feel her sick body fighting her with every move she takes, feeling weaker and weaker with any movements she makes. She'd woken up yesterday with an awful flu and it felt like her body was trying to kill her. She had a really high fever, sore throat, cough, blocked nose, her muscles ache, her head is pounding and she feels nauseous. She's pretty much been bed-ridden, save for the occasional trips downstairs for water, medicine and tiny bits of food.  Her boyfriend had been out of town for a while but he was due back at some point today. Taylor didn't particularly want him to see her like this but she knew there was no other option. He'd called her yesterday and heard how sick she was, so he knew. There was no point in trying to hide it.

Taylor's stomach was killing her today, she forced herself to get up and rush to the bathroom, emptying the content of her stomach. Doing so just made her throat burn even worse and her vision became blurry with tears. She lay down on the cool, tiled floors of the bathroom, trying to relieve the heat spread all over her body, feeling incredibly awful. She has no idea how long she lay there, she might have even fallen back asleep for a moment but she hears her phone ring in the other room. Knowing that it's probably Joe, she drags her exhausted body up off the floor to answer it, practically falling back onto the bed, unable to stand upright for too long.

"Hey babe, feeling any better today?" Taylor doesn't want to tell him, or worry him.

"Uh, yeah. Definitely on the mend now." Her throat burns with every word she says. Why is she lying to him? She just threw up, definitely not better than yesterday.

"That's so good! I'm boarding my plane now so I should land in New York in about 4 hours. I can't wait to see you." Joe sounds so excited to see her but she still feels like absolute shit, knowing damn well she's not going to be very exciting to be around when he gets here. She feels tears spring into her eyes.

"Yeah...I missed you." Her voice cracks slightly and she mentally kicks herself. Now he'll know she's not fine.

"Hey...what's wrong?" He says softly. She wipes under her eyes and tries to make herself sound normal.

"Nothing, sorry I just woke up...my voice is kind of weird." Taylor pushes her bangs off her sweaty face, still feeling disgusting.

"Oh...okay. Well, I'll be home soon love." He clearly isn't buying it.

"Yeah. See you soon." Taylor hangs up the phone and sighs. Her entire body aches, she feels worse today. Every passing moment she feels sicker and she forces herself out of bed to take some medicine to relieve her of some symptoms. Her stomach still feels sick so she decides against eating anything and she drags herself back up the stairs with a glass of water in her hand. Taylor feels a massive wave of nauseousness roll over her and she hurries to the bathroom, throwing up into her toilet, quickly flushing it down. She can't force herself to move anymore, her body has practically given up on her and she can't stand up. Tears roll down her cheeks and she closes her eyes, allowing sleep to consume her while she's lying on the bathroom floor.

Joe's POV

Joe unlocks the front door, excited to be home to see Taylor. He's been so worried about her, he knows for a fact that she's been downplaying how sick she really is, probably not wanting to bother him. That's just who she is. He calls out her name, expecting some sort of response but he's greeted by silence. Furrowing his brow, he makes his way upstairs, still calling out to her and being met with no response. When he enters their bedroom, he can't see her but he realises the bathroom door's shut. He knocks a couple of times.

"Taylor?" Still no reply. It's at this point where Joe is actually panicking. He opens the door very quickly to a sight he's not ready for. His girlfriend is passed out on the floor of the bathroom. Joe very quickly hurries over to her, letting his knees his the floor beside her, shaking her gently.
