Taylor is tired, Joe and her have been bickering all day. It's just one of those times where they've both been overworked, are completely exhausted and are now taking it out on each other. It's hardly going to be detrimental to their relationship but now they're getting ready for an event together - something that's rare enough in of itself and yet this time they're going to have to pretend that there's no anger between the two of them. Their fighting had ceased when her hair and makeup team had arrived - he'd slinked off to another room to get ready while Taylor jokes around with the people who are working on making her look put together.

Once Taylor's ready, she gets handed her dress and begins walking to her bedroom to put it on. She opens the door without knocking and is surprised to find Joe inside, also getting changed.

"Taylor can't you knock?!" His voice is irritated, like they both have been all day.

"This isn't your room. It's ours. Why the fuck should I knock in my own house?" She throws back at him, shutting the door behind her before stripping down to slip her dress on.

"The door was shut. I'm in here changing." His voice is bitter, neither of them are in the mood for a night out.

"It's nothing I haven't seen before, stop acting like you're an insecure teenager." By now she's got her dress on, her hands on her hips as she stares at Joe icily.

"Oh just fuck off Taylor." She watches him struggle with his tie, walks towards him and begins fixing it herself.

"I will fuck off, but at least do me one favour and at least pretend you like me while we're out. I really don't want the entire fucking world talking about us unfavourably." She can see the headlines now, 'Taylor Swift runs another man into the ground' or 'Taylor Swift is holding Joe Alwyn hostage to not seem crazy'. It's really not something she wants to deal with. She finishes tying his tie and walks out of the room, not waiting for his response. She doesn't need to, she knows they respect each other enough to not take their drama outside this house. They can work through this when they come home later.

She receives an array of compliments from her team when she makes her way back to them, flashing a smile and thanking them graciously for their work. It isn't long before Joe joins them and her team is hustling them into the back of a car. Tree spends the car ride explaining the logistics of how to behave, and giving a rundown of the situation. Oddly, Taylor feels Joe slip his hand in hers, squeezing gently. She breathes a sigh of relief knowing that at least they're on the same page about all this. Their relationship isn't up for discussion, so airing their dirty laundry at an event isn't on the cards for either of them. She squeezes his hand in return, briefly flicking her eyes to meet his for a moment. She re-focuses on what Tree is explaining to them as she feels his thumb gently stroking her hand and with that, she feels all the tension leave her body. They're okay. They're going to get through tonight, and then they're going to go home and have a calm conversation.

Going to any event like this always has Taylor feeling anxious - her every move is being watched at places like these and she's grown to hate that over the years. As they pull up to the front of the even, Taylor feels her body tense again. She can see her fans screaming which is super exciting but she can also see an array of interviewers and cameras all there to capture every moment of existence for the next three hours.

"Okay, are we ready guys?" Tree asks and Taylor feels herself nod before the car door gets opened and the loud screams are almost a shock to her system. She spends so much time living in private now that she's almost not used to this noise anymore. She loves it when on tour - but these sorts of award shows are different. There's people here who hate her, who want to see her trip and fall. There's interviewers who would do anything to dig deep and find out every painfully explicit detail of her life. She's not on her own terms when she's here. But she sucks in a deep breath and smiles, waving at everyone. She's more than advanced at this game, putting on a happy exterior as she greets all kinds of people. She isn't pretending when with her fans, she knows their love and support has gotten her here today and she's forever grateful to them. She poses for a few pictures with them before re-joining Joe and her team as they walk into the event, skipping the interviews.
