"You ready?" Taylor asks her boyfriend, getting her fingers ready to play the chords she'd composed into a song for him. They're both sitting on the floor with some wine, she's slightly nervous to be playing this song for him. She's played him songs that are about him before but this is different. This is softer, more personal - she really wants him to like it. Joe grins at her, clearly excited about being serenaded.
"Yeah!" Joe exclaims before pulling out his phone and starting to film her, she feels herself blush but gives him a small smile before looking down at her guitar, taking a deep breath and beginning to play the soft tune.
"My castle crumbled overnight..."
As she begins singing the words, she occasionally looks up at Joe, who's watching her with so much love and adoration evident in his eyes. She feels herself getting more confident when she sees the effect it's having on him.
"My baby's fit like a daydream..."
Taylor finds herself smiling at the lyrics, she's genuinely proud of this song - that she's been able to put all of this into words when for so long she'd been so worried that it wouldn't last, that he'd run for the hills. Her heart glows when she sings this, knowing he's stayed.
"At least I did one thing right, I did one thing right..."
She giggles and stretches her leg out, pointing her foot out at him before re-crossing her legs. The song is a perfect representation of how everything that has been happening in the outside world really doesn't matter. Because she has him. Because they had fallen in love, and the love they have is so much more important than anything anyone could ever say about her.
"I want to wear his initial on a chain round my neck..."
This part of the song always makes her smile. She loves the small, round necklace he had given her - the one with the J engraved into it. She always has a part of him with her. Even when they're forced to be oceans apart. Whether he travels or she does, she had a piece of him.
"My baby's fit like a daydream-"
Taylor looks up and sees his eyes, they're filled with tears that he's trying to wipe away while still grinning at her. It bursts her heart into all things warm and glowy, she's so happy that the songs seems to mean as much to him as it does to her. She mouths 'I love you' to him quickly before going back and continuing on with the song, needing to get through it all - despite just wanting to throw her arms around his neck and pull him close.
When she finishes, Joe puts the phone down and smiles at her - not saying anything. His eyes are still watery, making her feel all soft. Taylor grins, shuffling towards him, sitting in his lap and wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Did you like it?" She ask softly over his shoulder. Joe's arms wrap firmly around her back as he pulls her closer, clearly so enamoured by her.
"I loved it, god it was so beautiful. I love you, I know I can't quite put it into words they way that you do but I love you so much Taylor." She leans back, smiling brightly. She gently wipes under his eyes before kissing him softly - so so happy in this moment.
"I love you too, and I'm glad you like the song." She bites her lip, resting her arms over his shoulders, her fingers gently scratching his neck, playing with his short hair.
"Can I...can I put it on the album?" She looks down nervously. "You can say no! I just loved the song and I thought it would fit but if you're not okay with it then-" Joe cuts her off with a kiss before leaning back and looking at her with a huge smile.
"I'm more than okay with you putting it on there. I'd be flattered you'd want something that beautifully written about us on there, about me." Taylor smiles, incredibly grateful that he's so supportive of her. She hasn't had anyone be this supportive in such a long time and she honestly doesn't think she could ever feel happier than she does right now.
"Thank you." She nestles her head into the crook of his neck, breathing in his scent. Enjoying the feeling of his warm body holding hers, feeling completely at home and in peace. She loves when the two of them get to just be like this - alone and together. She's so relieved he likes the song and ecstatic that he's letting her put it on the album, she has a feeling her fans would love this one - almost as much as she does. It's so odd having the person she's writing about still being around to play the songs for. But she really is loving it, she loves getting his opinion, knowing he's always completely honest with her. Joe is so different in all the best ways and she loves him so much.
After a few moments of just simply enjoying their proximity, Taylor sits up - grabbing her guitar again to play something else, quickly taking a sip of her wine and laughing at Joe. Their night continues pretty much just like that. The two of them drinking wine, enjoying each others company while Taylor plays around with her guitar - occasionally letting him have a go. It's the perfect night in every single way.
