Joe trudged up to his hotel room after an incredibly long day of filming, he's exhausted and his eyes are already drooping. He swipes his key-card, letting himself into his room, dropping his stuff in the doorway before letting his body fall back onto the bed. Joe sighs, the heavy weight on his chest is increasing now that he's alone. He's in Argentina, filming for an upcoming movie, Operation Finale. It's pretty emotionally jarring having to force himself to embody this character full of so much hate from an incredibly horrific moment in history. Today was pretty hard for him, it's all allowing him to fall back into a dark pit he hasn't visited in a while which is genuinely scaring him. Joe sits up, rubbing his face before getting up and taking a quick shower.
When he emerges from the bathroom, the pit seems to be growing. Joe picks up the phone, realising Taylor has called a few times. He isn't sure he wants to answer her while he's in this mental state but ultimately decides he should, just in case something's wrong. He calls her back and she answers almost instantly.
"Hey! Sorry, are you busy? We can talk later..." Taylor's bright voice comes through the phone which makes him simultaneously happier but also more awful, knowing he can't meet her happiness right now. It takes him a minute to collect his thoughts and it seems he took too long because she speaks again.
"Joe? You there?" He sits down on the floor, trying to muster up some sort of happiness for her, not wanting to bring her mood down.
"Um yeah..." He says softly, not sure what else to say.
"What's wrong?" She replies instantly, clearly knowing something's up.
"Nothing, don't worry, I'm just really tired...it's been a long day. How's your day been?" He tries to change the subject, not wanting his mood that's eating away at him to affect her.
"Joe...come on, don't lie to me. I'm here for you, talk to me." Her voice is soft and disarming, it makes his heart clench and he feels his eyes water. He opens his mouth but no words come, he doesn't know how to explain this feeling. This low, dark cloud that just won't seem to leave him. It's been looming for a few days but it's pretty much consuming him today and he can't see any way out.
"Joe? Babe?" He can hear the worry in Taylor's voice.
"I'm-" He barely gets the word out before his eyes start dripping with tears. He hates feeling like this. It's something he's struggled with his whole life, Taylor has helped him immensely, she's just this shining light in his life and no matter what, she always makes him feel like the most important thing in her world and goes the extra mile whenever he gets days, or weeks like this.
"It's okay, whatever's going on with you right now, we'll get through this. I promise, I love you so much." Her voice is soft, he can hear she's removed all her own emotions out of it, leaving behind nothing but kindness and love.
"I...I don't know what happened." Joe sighs, hearing his own voice crack slightly.
"You don't need to know what happened, what's happening right now? In your mind?" Her disarming voice is calming him slightly but he just needs her here, beside him.
"The dark cloud is back and I can't get rid of it." His voice breaks and more tears roll down his cheeks which he hurriedly wipes away.
"Oh babe, shit...I'm so sorry I'm not with you right now." Joe squeezes his eyes shut for a moment before opening them again.
"It's okay, don't worry about it." He's just feeling worse now and all he wants to do is climb into bed, knowing he has a long day ahead of him tomorrow where he'll have to push all of this down.
"Is there anything I can do for you from here?" Taylor asks him softly, he knows she's trying to help, even though there's a distance but he knows nothing will work quite as well as if he was with her now. He just really needs her, but of course he can't tell her that.
