It had been long day for the both of them, so now they're both perfectly content cuddled up on the couch scrolling through Netflix to find something to watch. Her shirt is covering her body and she couldn't feel more at peace here, in his arms. Joe has the remote but something catches Taylor's eye
"Ooh! That one, I've wanted to see that for a while." She calls out excitedly, so Joe hovers over Someone Great, clicking on it before dropping the remote to wind his arms firmly around. Taylor sighs contently snuggling further into his arms, happy to enjoy this moment where it's just the two of them. She feels him press a kiss into her hair and she looks up at him, grinning. The movie begins and almost instantly, Taylor feels her whole entire heart shatter. Tears filling her eyes the whole way through the movie, the whole movie just feels so heartbreaking. She's completely hooked on the plot, almost forgetting that Joe's still holding her.
About halfway through, she sees the movie stop and looks up at her boyfriend slightly bewildered.
"Are you crying?" He murmurs, the playfulness evident in his voice.
"Shut up. It's sad!" She mutters indignantly, he just laughs, gently shaking his head before moving her hair off her face.
"You're cute." He whispers, kissing her gently. She loves the feeling of his lips, but she just wants to finish the movie so she pulls back, cuddling back into his arms before taking the remote and hitting play again. She hears Joe chuckle briefly before his chin rests on her head, his fingers gently stroking her arm and her emotions over this movie take over her again. She's so completely enamoured with this movie, has no idea quite why it's hitting her this hard. Perhaps the whole idea of just simply becoming a different person and it not working for the person you love. That love just isn't enough to make it work. It's just such a heartbreaking narrative and it's killing her.
They make it the whole way through the movie, the credits rolling, tears still slipping down Taylor's cheeks.
"Oh my god." She murmurs, wiping her cheeks.
"You okay?" Joe asks, seems genuinely concerned. But she just nods, looking up at him,
"Yeah, just...wow." She's completely speechless, whoever wrote that movie is a bloody genius.
"You liked the movie?" Joe's voice peeks through the fog in her brain.
"I did. Wasn't expecting it to be so emotional in that way." Her mind begins to space out, already working on what she could do with these emotions, a song perhaps?
"Love? Are you sure you're okay?" She looks up to meet his eyes again, smiling at him.
"I am, I promise." She feels his fingers brush under her eyes, his lips gently find her forehead. She reaches up to cup his face. "I love you." She murmurs, resting her forehead against his.
"I love you too. Now, do you want to do something a bit happier before we head off to bed?" He suggests, knowing how her mind work
"Scrabble?!" She exclaims brightly, Joe just laughs
"Sure thing, sounds good." He disentangles her body from his, pulling out the scrabble board as they migrate to the table.
An hour later, Taylor finds herself victorious, something she enjoys rubbing in Joe's face.
"You see, it's just because I'm so smart." She teases, grinning exuberantly.
"Of course you are love, but I let you win!" He's just trying to cover his tracks and it makes her laugh.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night." She rolls her eyes, getting up and going to sit on his lap, her arms wound around his neck.
"It does. Thank you so very much." The twinkle in his eye makes her shake her head, gently bringing her lips to his. Their lips part, but their proximity never does, it never seems to when they're actually alone together. "Speaking of sleep, I think it's time for us to get some of that." She nods in agreement, climbing off his lap and reaching out her hand for him to take. Their fingers entwine as they make their way up the stairs. As the climb into bed, Joe pulls her back close to his chest, his arm reaching around her body to hold her hand. Her eyes begin drooping as she feels his body still, his breath evening out. Not long later, Taylor falls to sleep herself.
------------------------
A few hours later, Taylor wakes up with a gasp. Her dream had almost followed the exact same aspects of the movie they'd watched last night. Except it had been her and Joe. Which completely shattered her in the dream. She's breathing heavily, running her hand up through her bangs before looking over at Joe, who's sleeping peacefully. All of a sudden, she has a melody in her head, words filling her brain and all at once, everything makes sense. Taylor hurries out of bed, into the next room that has a piano. She pulls out her phone, immediately opening a voice memos as she beings to write. The words just flow out of her. A breakup song. Taylor can't help but laugh at how ironic it is she's writing a song this devastating when she's so fucking happy and in love. But her mind has never necessarily worked 'typically'.
Taylor begins plays the piano, piecing together lyrics for god-knows how long, tears streaming down her face as she pictures herself in this situation. But she hears a gentle knock on the doorframe which startles her slightly, pulling her out of her reverie. She looks over to see her boyfriend standing there, leaning against the door.
"Oh love what are you doing?" He walks towards her, sitting beside her and throwing her arm around her shoulders. She wipes away her tears,
"I came up with a song." She says simply, not fully expanding.
"Well I did manage to figure that much out, believe it or not." He says sarcastically, earning a playful hit from Taylor.
"You're hilarious." She murmurs, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Okay, do you want to tell me why you're crying and writing a song?" His voice is soft, his fingers gently stroking her arm.
"I had a weird dream, we were the characters from last nights movie. And when I woke up I had these song lyrics in my head that just feel completely gut-wrenching. So it appears I've written a breakup song. About us, but not really. It's really about the couple from the movie, but it got triggered by a dream I had about us." She rambles, trying to explain her train of thought. She hears Joe chuckle, then feels him kiss the crown of her head.
"Oh love, your mind never ceases to amaze me." She laughs at the craziness of it all, nuzzling her head into his chest.
"Why thank you, it's a scary place but one that manages to produce art so..." She feels his fingers run through her hair.
"I think it's a wonderful place." He murmurs, "I love everything about your mind." She feels warm and tingly when he says that, even more so as his fingers delicately scratch her head.
"I love you." She murmurs sleepily, sighing.
"Do you want to go back to bed love?" He asks her quietly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Mmm." She mumbles, already falling asleep at the feeling of his warm body engulfing her.
"Okay." She hears him say before her body gets lifted up. Her arms wind around his neck as she forces her eyes open, looking into his sparkling blue ones. "I love you too, by the way." A small smile playing on his lips.
"I know." She whispers, her eyes drooping as he lays her gently down on the bed, feels him pull the covers over her before quickly laying down next to her. Taylor uses the last of her energy to move herself so she's cuddling into his chest, his arms wind around her body. She lets out a peaceful sigh, thankful she'd been able to write about that movie, knowing she'd needed to expel those emotions in someway. And now, she's here, cuddled up with the man she loves so much she doesn't quite know what to do with herself. It's crazy if you thing about it, but she's never been happier than she is right now. She feels herself slipping into a deep sleep, with nothing but her love on her mind.
